PWHEW crawling

C just figured out how to get up on all 4s by herself! Proud mama :)

For those with experience, how long did it take your LO to crawl after they figured out how to get up on their hands and knees? Just wondering how much peace I have left before the crazy begins!

And sorry I've been MIA! Things have been nuts ever since Thanksgiving and I'm ready to let things settle back down in the new year...and get my bump on ;)

Re: PWHEW crawling

  • My DS just started getting himself up on all 4 and rocking the other day.  I'm just waiting for him to just take off and day now.   He already rolls around all over the place I can only imagine how much fun he is going to have getting into everything once he figures out how to crawl.

Welcome back - if you read the past few days you will learn you now need to do a re-intro post when you're gone for more than a few hours.

E was on all fours and started moving back and forth for about 4-5 days before actually crawling. It was amazing to see him progress. He got up on all fours, then started moving back and forth, then would put both hands out and flop, then he progressed to one knee going forward but he couldn't figure out hands and knees at the same time in the right order. Then all the sudden he went two steps and after that he was off...

All of this, dd rocked back I'm forth for a little bit and then figured out how to move her arms one day. And now crawls like a pro lol

Yeah J has been rocking back and forth for almost 2 months. He rolls where ever he wants to go.
  • MJ got up on all fours and began rocking about 5 weeks ago.. he has yet to make progress to actually crawling... I thought for sure it would be before christmas but nope.

Yep, MJ turns himself to the angle he needs to roll someplace and then off he goes, so I think he is fine with that and has no incentive to crawl.

  • E has been rocking back and forth for ages now. She goes backwards perfectly lol.

All joking aside she's just started to go forwards. Only just mind you. She takes two steps face plants then has to start again.

  • No crawling here. J is just starting to get close to being on all 4s.

My son has zero desire to crawl:(

Us too. I don't know if R will ever really crawl. He hates being low. He has always hated being on his tummy and not being able to see everything. All he does is pull himself up and want to stand. I try to coax him to crawl by holding his toys just out of reach but all I get are screams and and "ma, quit moving my sh*t" looks. I've just given up and worked on walking. My MIL says that DH never crawled but walked at 9 months.

Our pedi said C may never crawl. He still loathes being on his belly.

  • *sigh* we're still working on rolling...

  • He's gotten up on all 4s for a couple weeks now but hasn't figured out crawling. He almost always just pushes up into a plank and then looks around like "what the hell do I do now?".

Same. We are working on butt scooting.

V did this for about a week, then she started going backwards, but a couple of days later she figured it out. E got it really fast; both started crawling over our Christmas break. And if I thought keeping an eye on two babies was hard before....wow.

Also, I find it so amazing how close together my (fraternal) twins have achieved all their milestones so far. And V has been first to do some things while E has been first to do others.

  • O was up on all 4's for about 3 weeks. A few days before he started crawling he was putting one foot on the ground and pushing himself while his other knee was on the floor. That's what taught him how to move his arms. Enjoy it for now. I turn around and he's on the other side of the house!

This exactly! He actually crawled for the first time in his sleep across his crib. The next day he did it for real.

  • M rocked and went backwards for about a month... I am guessing the older they get, the less rocking they need before crawling?

My little bug, Madeline. Born June 2, 2013.

  • DS2 just started getting on all fours and rocking. That took him a couple weeks to from a seated position, not from tummy. He's really trying hard though, poor guy
  • DS has been scooting for about a month and a half. He's been getting up on all fours and rocking for about a month now but always flops down and scoots inside. I don't think he sees any need to crawl for now lol
  • Lo rocked for about a couple weeks, army crawled for a couple more then about 3 weeks ago decided to crawl. Also same day she started pulling herself up.

    Exactly this.

  • G took 4 weeks to go from all 4's to a slight movement forward before faceplanting. In that time he learned to go backwards, and I started to wonder if he'd ever go forward. Now he can get one 'step' forward before falling.
  • @nailqueen, my husband and I both crawl around on all fours and it hasn't helped yet!

  • E knows how to backwards crawl? shimmy?  She backed her self almost under our couch and almost into the cat pan room yesterday.  It's kind of funny. She's almost to the point where she can get up on all 4's, but isn't quite there.

  • my baby girl is 7 months and a week and she seems not to want to crawl…she tries but she loves to sit and loves to stand and try to pull up on things…she can't quite swing her one leg around yet to crawl and when she is in the proper "on all fours" position she drops onto her belly after a bit… hehe…all in good time
  • I'd say a solid month. She'd scoot and then eventually figured out how to use her knees. Now she's trying to pull herself up.
