My MIL came to the sudden realization that my husband and I have two cats. We have owned the cats for three years, but it just kind of dawned on her that they will be here when the baby arrived. She freaked out on us. The cats, she says, must be "thrown away" before the babies come. I thought maybe since English is her second language that what she meant was "re-homed", nope, she meant thrown away. She assured my husband and I that after "2 to 3 days" we would would stop being sad and never think about the cats again. I tried to explain that we really love these cats, and that the little one has epilepsy and would never survive without her three-times-a-day medication. MIL was unmoved.
A bit of background, MIL is from rural Korea, and Koreans are not known as a pet-loving people (that is slowly changing back in Korea). Cats in particular have a long history of being considered dirty and thieving animals. Lucky for me my husband is really attached to the furballs so no worries there. I am honestly just afraid to leave my MIL in my home by herself with baby and the cats. I have this odd feeling my cats might "accidentally" escape the house.
I was raised in a house where we always kept a pair of cats - and I made it out just fine. Anyone have any stategies for dealing with this particuliar brand of craziness? Anyone else have cat/baby living togather success stories? If anyone knows of a situation in which maybe a cat carried a baby from a burning building, that might be enough to get the MIL off my back on this!

Yep I have no doubts that we will make it work, and we would never give them up. We have many many years left with the donks in particular! I won't lie, I do look forward to the day that the kid can help with barn chores!
That is adorable!

@krptcmschfmkr128 i have a total fantasy about having cute baby/cat pictures. Yes, I'm hormonal, but the pics literally brought tears to my eyes!
On a side note:
I am worried about one of my fur babies just because I am really the only person she likes and I admit I spoil her. I am worried that she might resent the baby and the attention the baby will get from me. Did anyone experience jealousy from their fur babies?
Thanks and good luck
