Midwives

Hi! I am a first-timer from Hamilton, am 5 1/2 weeks pregnant, and my DH and I are super excited. I have decided a midwife would be a good fit for me. There are 3 clinics in Hamilton and I randomly chose one, called, and made my first appointment. Now I am thinking that perhaps I made the choice too quickly....any tips on how to choose? I went on all of their websites and obviously all have great feedback. Any one else decide to use a midwife?

    You are lucky.  I wanted to get a midwife and I couldn't.  In Toronto, they say you should get a midwife before you've conceived.  The wait list is crazy!

    I'm in Scarborough and was able to get my MW no problem. Go with your gut. If you like your MW, then stay put.

    I tried the Hamilton, Halton and Burlington MW with no luck :(

    Yeah here in London there's a waiting list and no choice as to the individual mw themselves, so.... Id take the one you have unless there's a specific reason to switch.

    Which Midwife clinic were you able to get one with? I called The Midwives Clinic associated with Toronto East General literally the day after I missed my period and I'm on a waiting list now :(

    I was on the waiting list (in Mississauga) and I just got in 3 weeks ago (I am now  29 weeks preg). So there's hope for those of you on the waiting list.
    There are a few things to consider when you meet your midwives.
    1.  Which hospital do the midwives deliver at?  This is relevant even if you are planning a home birth, because if complications arise, you'll be headed to the hospital
    2.  How long after the birth do they offer support?

    And any other questions you might have.    I agree with a previous poster, go and meet them, see how you feel afterwards.
