PP Itching? Maybe TMI

It SERIOUSLY itches down there since a couple of days ago. I didn't have this after DD, and I am PRAYING I don't have a yeast infection or something ...I've never had one, so I don't know what they feel like. It started as I was stopping bleeding and right before I stopped using pads, and I am just wondering if pads have rubbed it raw (I've always used tampons, but since we can't). Just wondering if you guys have had the same issue? I've been using the spray they gave me at the hospital, and it makes it itch even more when I first put it on, but then it eases up a little and is just uncomfortable.

Re: PP Itching? Maybe TMI

  • I have definitely been itchy the last few days (12 days pp here). I'm thinking it's from my stitches healing...I've had many yeast infections and this doesn't feel like that kind of itch.

I'm actually 12 days pp too! Did you have your LO on the 20th? :D ...That's good to know because I would probably just have to suffer through it, right? It's not like we can use Vagisil or anything yet...

This- I was only itchy at the site of my stitches healing.  Did you get stitches, and could that be the cause?  If it's an everywhere or inside kind of itchy, I'd see your doc...
  • Did you have stitches? I was told that they can be itchy as they heal.

I actually didn't get any stitches this time, and it is itchy all around. Do you really think it could be a doctor issue?

  • I went thru this too, at right about 12 days pp. For me, I think it was a combo of stitches healing, hair growing back (I was terrified to shave down there after delivery), and the catheter site healing up - ALL AT ONCE! Miserable. It passed but at one point I was walking thru target and had to abandon my cart (dd was at home with DH) and hightail it to the bathroom to scratch. Yikes!
Yeah! It's about that bad! I couldn't even sleep in pants last night... I couldn't deal with anything touching me! I was about to crawl out of my skin! LOL

  • I was gonna post this last night! I am so itchy! 14 days PP here. I think it's in the stitches area but I am not sure. I had some internal stitches so that makes it more confusing- but the itch is terrible! :\ hopefully it doesn't last long!
  • @kyrsties, yep on the 20th! :) if you didn't get stitches, maybe some "road rash" abrasions that still need to heal up? Id think either of those could cause the itching. I have some New Mama Bottom Balm by Earth Mama Angel Baby that I apply whenever I feel it and it does help. I don't think Vagisil would be good for this kind of itch, but you could ask your OB.

I doubt it's anything serious, but it's probably worth a call... that way your doc can maybe tell you if it sounds like general healing or more like a yeast infection.  Sorry you're going through this- sounds miserable!

This was my thought as well. Definitely call your doc though just to be sure!

Our babies have the same birthday! :D I've just been using Dermoplast pain reliever spray, and it has given some definite relief. I shaved down there a few days ago, and I'm starting to wonder if that just might be the problem with as sensitive as we are down there right now.

  • I had this a week ago.  I had stitches and thought maybe that was it but it was more of an 'all-over' itch.  I used an external cream for 2 days and it went away on its own.

Did you receive IV antibiotics during labor?  Antibiotics always give me a yeast infection.

  • Honestly it's probably a diaper like rash from constantly wearing pads. Baby on the 20th here too. I'd use a little desitin on your outter lady bits and give a call to your doc.

  • I had this right before Christmas. I thought for sure it was a yeast infection and I even called my doctor to see if I could use Monistat, bought it, then never used it because the itch just went away. I think it was from the pads.

I was actually thinking about using some Destin the other day, haha! And that's too cool! :D
