Breaking attachment to a lovey

Allie left "pink blankly" in our room several days ago. I left it there waiting to see what happened. Last night I washed it and put it away. Not one peep from her. I think we are on track to breaking her of loveys! I cried when I folded it up. She's had "pink blanky" for 3 of her 4 surgeries, during both tornados, our wreck, and every other major crisis. I want to give it back, but I feel like this is a good time to cut the cord.

Any advice? She is 6 and still has "pink bunny."

  • Eh, I don't think it's a big deal unless she tries to take it everywhere. J still has a lovey at 10, but it stays on her bed. I still have my childhood lovey in my memory box.

  • I'm no help. I still sleep with my baby blanket. :) My grandma made it twin bed sized so it's perfect for covering my half of the bed when I'm freezing and DH is too warm.

  • Having it isn't the issue. The dependency is my concern

  • I slept with my baby blanket all the way through college. I now keep it in a box of keepsakes, but it hardly even resembles a blanket anymore.

So IMO, there's nothing wrong with still having her blankie. Taking it everywhere is one thing, but just keeping it at home seems a-ok.

She was moving around a lot last night. I went in to check on her. She was looking for "pink blankly." I gave it back. She hugged it so tight and said "I thought I left you in TN!"

ETA: I had planned to give it back before bed. We had company and I forgot.
