Sperm Results - I have questions

I got my husband's SA results right before NYE.  I understand most of it, but the nurse was rather confusing and cryptic when it came to the morphology result.  Can someone help me understand the results?  I don't see my RE until CD1, which is still a week away and I'd rather not Dr. Google this to death, all day long.  Any help is much appreciated!!

There are different morphology numbers to compare against. Did she say which morphology they did (strict morpho or otherwise?).

Off the top of my head, I don't know what the ref ranges are, but I do know DHs strict morphology was at 3.5% on one slide and 4% on another and the doctors all said that was too low.

  • I'm guessing that's referring to strict morphology. My RE wants it at 4% minimum, DH's was 3.5% about a year ago. That said if the count is high enough it can "cancel out" the low strict %, which is where we stand. If you go the IUI route in the future the numbers improve post-wash.

Two DDs 10/08 and 08/10, no primary IF
    TTC #3 since 10/2011 - dx unexplained/weak ovulation
     3 BFN clomid + TI cycles, 5 BFN clomid/gonal f IUIs, 1 mmc IUI
2/19/2014 IVF #1 Unexpected low E2 (oversuppressed) -> increased to max doses = 3 or 4 follicles, converting to IUI
BFFP Saw 1 beautiful heartbeat at 6w6d, follow up u/s at 9w showed mmc. Eff this.
    NTNP 5/2014-9/2014, OPKs and TI 10/2014 - 1/2015.
RPL testing all normal, AFC, AMH, and FSH all normal.
    IVF 1.2 1/22/2014 natural cycle start, AFC 28, 300 gonal f/150menopur.
ER 2/3/15 14R 8M 3F w/ICSI Day 5 transfer on 2/8/15 of one "Grade A+" blast and have TWO frosties!

  • Ok so if we're doing IUI the morph % won't matter as much as if we were doing IVF - yes?  My RE said she'd discuss it further when I come in for CD3 b/w, but I want to prepare myself if she says that 2.5% morph is too low to go forward with IUI this cycle.

  • I honestly don't know for sure, but they might suggest bypassing iui and going right to IVF. ((Hugs)) SIF is such a beyotch.

  • I do know that on DHs SA result sheet, it said something about <4% morphology not indicated for ICSI, which I found super confusing.
