This may be a silly silly question, but for those of you who are on metformin, do you still consume alcohol? I'm talking about a glass or two of wine or beer here or there, not getting smashed.
My RE didn't say anything about it, but I noticed on the bottle that it says not to take with alcohol. Does that me no alcohol at all while on it, or just don't take the pill with alcohol?
Since I started taking it in November I haven't had any, and we are going out for New Years tonight and I would like to have a nice time and relax with a glass or two. I just want to make sure I'm not going to be really regretting it and end up in the bathroom all night.

I figured I'd be ok, but it's nice to hear others experience with it.

Drinking alcohol with metformin can lead to a serious condition called lactic acidosis. A few drinks a week is ok, but my doc said that if you plan on drinking in excess, to skip that day's dosage.

Mine never said anything about alcohol. I have a drink sometimes after work and I don't see any difference in anything. I dont ever consume a large amount tho. My bottle didnt warn not to drink while taking it either tho. I didn't think anything of it.
I wasn't told not to drink but I definitely feel queasy and not so hot after just a glass of wine... so I would definitely encourage you to be careful!

Thanks everyone for the replies. I had a glass right at midnight and everything turned out just fine. I haven't had a chance to call my RE yet this morning, but I will just to make sure how he wants to do things moving forward.
Hope you all had a wonderful and safe New Years!!!
