Thought I would share, H and I did this over the weekend and we doubled up on everything so we have 2 of each meal. For 20 meals the cost was $135 for everything, granted we shopped sales, and did a ton of generic and ALDI to cut costs.  We will add in some sides and stuff when needed but I am so excited that we have all these meals ready for the end of the pregnancy and for when the baby gets here :)

Re: Crockpot Freezer meals link

  • Thanks! I was planning in doing this soon too :)

  • I just did the figuring, each meal was probably about 6 servings so you would probably get 4 dinners and 2 lunches out of it so it comes to 1.12 a serving, with out a side or pasta figured int, but to feed a family of 4 for 4.48 for dinner sounds fantastic to me :)

  • I crock pot a lot (about one to 2 times a week) I have never done the freezer ones though, we put them in crock pot liners and then in the freezer bags for ease of clean up too, so we can just lift out the mess.

  • I made these a few weekends ago. I spent about $146, but that included items not used in these recipes (eggs, half & half, etc) and food for several other non crockpot meals. They were pretty easy to do. Oh and I made double of some so we came out with 16 meals and will definitely get more than one meal out of each one.

  • How long can these meals stay frozen and still be good? I keep seeing people saying to do this around 38 weeks but I can't imagine having the energy ...

  • All the meat is raw? Have you eaten any of these? I made 3 freezer casseroles last night. Hoping to build up a supply over the next 2 months. Never tried crock pot liners.

  • Crock pot liners are the best things ever. Some people get weirded out about cooking in them (plastic or whatver they are made of) but I think they're awesome. Clean up is so much easier.
Ditto crock pot liners being awesome.

My first reaction was to avoid the additional use of resources, but the amount of time, energy, soap, and water I was using to clean my crockpot when I didn't use a liner quickly made me change my tune.

  • Yes the meat is Raw, you can freeze for awhile as long as you get the air out of the bags, then you than in the fridge the night before and dump the contents into the crock pot, set on low for 8 to 10 hours and it willb e ready.

  • These recipes are awesome! Thanks!! Also, so far as freezer bags, I use the Ziploc vacuum seal bags and LOVE them. They are a little bit more expensive than regular freezer bags, but with the food in my freezer not getting freezer burned and thrown away the cost evens out.
  • Pet peeve of mine.  Looking over this list at lunch I saw a couple recipes like this one:

    • 2 lbs chicken breast
    • ¼ cup dried minced onion
    • 1 (16 oz) can whole cranberry sauce
    • 1 cup BBQ sauce (I use Sweet Baby Rays)

Seriously?  How is it not more work to put all that shit in a ziplock, label, freeze, thaw it -  than it would be to just dump all FOUR pre-packaged ingredients in the crockpot on the day you want to eat it?

    This one too:

    • 1-2 lb pork tenderloin
    • 1 cup chunky applesauce
    • 1 cup BBQ sauce
    • 2 tbsp minced dried onion

    Those aren't worth pre-prepping!

I have no idea why this bothers me so much but I see it all the time on lists of freezer cooking meals and it makes me nuts.  That's all - just venting.

I noticed that when we were doing it too, Since we were in the mode of doing it and had all of the stuff I just kept going.  With that being said though, My Brain is non existant for the first few weeks after the baby is born so in that sense and with my luck I would probably forget one of the ingredients and then wonder why it tasted like crap! So for me, knowing that all I have to do is Thaw and Dump, in between getting peed on, and leaking everywhere and completely sleep deprived I went with it :)

  • Defrosted my freezer yesterday all ready for a major cook in this weekend. I haven't been able to eat meat since I got pregnant so super excited to eat some of them when baby comes out! Yum yum yum!
  • Thanks for these!  I plan to supplement a few ingredients for fresher ones that are healthier, so this will be really useful.

Usually stuff that isn't vac packed but sealed in a ziplock will last a couple of months before getting freezer burnt. @jenniemac2000 If you cook it, then freeze it in a container, put some saran wrap on it to keep the air out and it will keep for 3-4 months without getting freezer burnt.

  • I have been doing this for a couple of months to weed through recipes and absolutely love it!! I then just started googling frozen crockpot recipes for more ideas. We are super busy with no kids so the idea that I take 2-3 hours once a month to prep about 20 meals is wonderful. My plan is to have 6-8 weeks for when baby is born, so I don't have to spend an hour each night cooking. I highly recommend. I also really recommend using more spices then most recipes recommend. I don't know if it's the freezer or the longer cooking process but I feel like most recipes can use a little "punching" up.

  • These all look good. I want to make them all, but I need to clean out my freezer first.
