Vent (sorry): Holy BH, for the love of god...

...STOP IT!

Sorry, no real point to this, I just needed to get this out. This is Day 3 of insane, all day BH. They aren't timeable but are increasing in strength.

My OB knows about it and said to call immediately if they became timeable and lasted longer, otherwise, hang tight because baby is on his way.

In the meantime though, I'm never getting to sleep because baby boy wants to make sure I'm as uncomfortable as possible. I feel like I'm being electrocuted.

Re: Vent (sorry): Holy BH, for the love of god...

  • I feel ya! I've been having almost constant BH for the past week. My doc said they don't really mean anything (and when she checked on Tuesday they hadn't progressed me any further). She said it's just one of those things end of pregnancy comes with!

  • Ugh. Right there with you as far as insane discomfort and zero sleep go. Hopefully soon well have a whole new reason to be sleeping. ::Semi sarcastic yay::
  • Right there with you. They are getting more intense and are painful. Yuck.

  • I know!  Mine were freaking constant from about 1 am last night (right before bed) up until dinnertime today.  Not timeable, but pretty darned uncomfortable.  I almost went to the hospital a couple times, as I'm planned c/s and not supposed to wait out labor.  They finally stopped, for a while.  I know the minute I go to bed, they're going to come back again.  But hey, at least they motivated me to finish packing my bag and assemble the bassinet.
  • I'm up enjoying these as I type this. I just want to sleep!

  • BH off and on all day for the last 2 wks... some of them take my breath away and I have to lean over some furniture to wait it out. Hoping these practice contractions make Game Day more manageable!
  • I really just want to say "Oh darn, just 2 weeks? Really???" My 1st BH contractions were like by week 28.

Anyway, I woke up from a contraction, it was so strong, I've had 2 minor ones, and now another strong one. I'm ready for it to end!

Yeah, mine started before 27 weeks and have been timeable and frequent. I've mentioned it many times now, but I will have bouts of BHs for 5-7 hours that are only a few minutes apart. Sometimes 3-4 mins, sometimes 2-5 mins. That has been happening since Halloween. Every time I go to L&D they talk about admitting me because they can't stop the contractions.

I don't completely buy the idea that they will do anything to help prepare my body for real contractions/labor, though.
  • But I am also up right now because of BHs. So I can commiserate a bit. :)
  • Yup I hate them. Apparently my meds were doing such a good job of calming my uterus I can't tell if I'm having contractions or just painful BH. Yay end of pregnancy

  • My first BH were around 27 weeks but I would get like 4 in an hour and then nothing for the rest of the day. This just feels like it's coming in waves all day long, back to back. This is ridiculous. I didn't fall asleep until around 3:30 last night because they wouldn't stop.

  • @peanutmuse - when did they tell you to come in? Since the standard rule doesn't apply to you.

  • I feel your pain. I was up at midnight and 3:00 am because of lovely BH. Mine get close to the 5-1-1 rule and then randomly will stop and then pick back up.  I am looking forward to the day that I actually get to say "these are real, let's go!!"
  • @peanutmuse - when did they tell you to come in? Since the standard rule doesn't apply to you.
@MrsGraham06 -- honestly, the standard response was to stare blankly and repeat "you should come in if you have more than 4-6 an hour" when I have asked that question. Seriously. Then, when I would say that would mean I would be coming in several times a day every single day, they would do something like shrug their shoulders and stare blankly. I have never had a meaningful answer to that question. But honestly, I've never gone in specifically for the contractions. It was always for something else.

The contractions have actually slowed down dramatically over the past few weeks so it's not really an issue anymore. For example, when I was up earlier, they were coming every 3-4 minutes, but only lasted for about 2 hours and then stopped pretty suddenly. And they aren't painful -- although my pain tolerance is kind of skewed. I am just trusting that I will know when they are true labor contractions. :)

On a side note, I have done a lot of research on the consistent contraction thing -- apparently the women who have experienced it like me have gotten a lot of the same response from the medical community. Blank stares and not really knowing what to do about it. It's not good or normal to have contractions that frequently, but for a lot of us it doesn't cause dilation or put us into pre-term labor, so it's not necessarily bad either. It baffles everyone when I'm in L&D because they assume that I must be dehydrated (I'm not) and then they can't believe how much I am peeing after they hook me up to an IV (I told you I wasn't dehydrated, people).
  • Mine started before 20 weeks this time. Irritable uterus is a blast.

With DS I did get checked a few times due to them being regular and timeable. After realizing they weren't dilating me, I basically decided to just ignore them in absence of other symptoms (leaking, etc). When real contractions with DS eventually started, they were totally different and there was no mistaking them.

So now I just ignore them. But they are annoying. I haven't worked out in weeks because activity turns my stomach into a rock hard ball and it is uncomfortable.

  • @ababymaybe, sounds like you and I are in the exact same boat. Do you get the blank stares and shrugged shoulders too? I don't even worry about them anymore. I'm glad to know that my instincts that I will be able to tell the difference worked for you, because that's what I'm banking on.
  • They are such a tease. A few times, DH asked if we needed to go in. I said no, that I bet they would stop. They always do.

But let me ask to those who go in to L&D only to be sent home (@peanutmuse maybe?), how does that work with your insurance? Do you pay a copay like ER copay every time you go in? Or do they just add it to your overall bill? My insurance sucks and try their best not to cover anything, so I'm a little nervouse about going in and being sent home. (I know everyone's insurance is different, just curious)
  • @cnwilbur1030 - Honestly, I have no idea with this pregnancy. The last time I went in and was sent home was with DS2, and that insurance covered everything. Seriously, I think all we paid for was DH's meals at the hospital (hospital policy). We figure if nothing else, we can get a payment plan if it becomes too much, I'd rather go in when I don't need to than not go in when I do.

@cnwilbur1030 -- so far, what I have received are bills for co-insurance. I'm not 100% sure how it will work overall because my insurance does not bill for anything related to prenatal care until after the baby is born. United Health Care is weird like that. They are also the ones who won't even let you order your breast pump until the baby has been born. We're probably going to get a pretty hefty bill very soon.
  • @peanutmuse - pretty much! I was in L&D for some weird back pain a week and a half ago, and the nurse was like 'um, you do know you're contracting every 10 minutes on the monitor, right?' and I was like 'oh yeah, happens all the time! I just ignore it!'. I think she thought I was nuts.
