Sleep Trouble

DS has always been a good sleeper.  He falls asleep without a problem and sleeps about 11-12 hours a night. Within the past month he randomly wakes up and its usually around 12-1 and starts crying hysterically. I cant even let him cry it out because he works himself up so much. I've tried a little drink of water or milk but that doesn't work. I can rock him and he passes out but when I put him back in the crib he freaks out. Not really sure what to do at this point. I've taken him in our guest room and slept with him twice but I don't want him to get into that habit. Any suggestions?

    Does he fall asleep on his own at bedtime?  My DS has gone through phases like this also and unfortunately nothing but time really helped.  However, I do not lay in his room with him till he is asleep as I don't think that helps.  I go in and rub his back or hold his hand till he's calm but I always leave while he's awake.

    We went through something similar for 6 weeks!  Almost certain it was her Molars.

    Is this every single night?  DS STTN but this past month there have been weeks that he woke up MOTN and screamed (3nights/week).  His 1st molar finally broke through this past weekend.  

    When DS wakes up MOTN and starts screaming, I send DH to go soothe him.  I've tried myself before but it was worse; probably some separation anxiety there too. I tried Ferber (we did sleep training way back when and was successful) but it only made it worse.  But if DH goes in, DS stops screaming right away and goes back to sleep pretty quickly.

    Its not every night but just recently started. I am pretty sure its from teething. He has had a ton of teeth for months now but I just noticed another on top in the back popped through and on the bottom in the back there is a HUGE tooth coming through and it looks a little swollen.
