Louisiana's New Year's baby

I just found out the name of the first New Year's baby in Louisiana. Her name is So'Unique. No ladies, that was not a spell check error. I understand that people want to give their kids a "unique" name, but people please. Their names can affect their future. Be wise ladies.

  • If you think it's okay to name your child So'Unique, you probably shouldn't breed. Yikes.

  • I thought it was bad that Portland's first baby of 2014 was named Naythyn, but So'Unique takes the cake!
  • We're getting to the point where no one is ever going to be trusted to name their child again, so, we'll all go by social security numbers. (I've been watching too much sci-fi without enough sleep!)

  • Wow, that's going to look great on her resume some day. Ugh. Poor thing doesn't have much of a chance to be taken seriously.

  • Seriously. I'm not trying to tell people what to do with their children, because they came out of their vajayjay, but just think about it. Names like Krimson or So'Unique can be their nicknames.
When picking out my children names I pictured what would look good on a lawyer's name plate or doctor's lab coat and I also used some family names to pass down. Like I said just be wise.
  • Wasn't her middle name miracle as well? I believe full name was So'Unique Miracle Randall or something of that sort :-) poor thing.
  • Agree with PPs - do the resume test. Trust me, people at companies DO judge you if you have a crazy name. There have been sociological studies to prove this as well! Definitely sad.
  • I saw a post about a lady name Airwrecka.... i mean i can tell what the name is but really? what ever happened to erica or erika?

  • Her name was So'Unique Miracle Randle and she was born in Lubbock, Texas, not Louisiana. For what it's worth, her sisters are named Saphire and Violet according to the article from lubbockonline.com and she was named by her aunt.

  • In Germany, and several other eurpean countries, have a list of approved names that you have to choose from when naming your baby. I imagine So'Unique is not on that list.

Yes. The name list. We think LO can be a dual citizen, so, the Danish name list it is!

  • Oh, that's sad to do that to your child, but if she's got a conventional middle name, perhaps she can use that instead?  Also, the name list is for German citizens - at least here in Germany.  Since we're American, we can name our kid what we want (within reason - no offensive names).  Although, I've heard in other countries like Denmark, Sweden, and was it Norway or Iceland? have stricter guidelines... found this link:  https://mentalfloss.com/article/25034/8-countries-fascinating-baby-naming-laws

  • Iceland's naming guidelines are super strict. Its really hard to get a new name on the list. Lots of people hate it and some don't care. The mayor of Reykjavik really hates it. He wrote a really cool piece about naming his daughter after his grandmother, Camilla. When he got the birth certificate it had been changed to Kamilla because C had since been removed from the icelandic alphabet (sometime in the 50's I think?) That would infuriate me.

  • That's just awful. I cringe when I hear names like that.
