Insomnia/BFing

So I delivered C a little over 1 day ago. While I'm grateful for the love and support of my family and hospital staff, things have been chaotic. (Which is to be expected.)

I let the nurse take her last night because I delivered at 5, family left at 9, I still had the shakes until 9 and labored for 20 hours prior. After a long day today, I thought I would want the help and given time to sleep so I agreed to letting her stay in the nursery again.

I've been awake since she left. I'm finally starting to feel good and have turned Mother Bear. All I want is my family together. DH is across the room, C is across the hall, and my pup is across town. I cannot wait to be discharged tomorrow!

Sorry I'm venting. This hospital bed sucks, my muscles are all knotted up from the shakes and I feel like I've only gotten to hold my daughter when I'm feeding her. I'm ready for family time.

  • As other PP said ask for her back. Congratulations!

I've been up with M for every feed tonight. DH has been useless and will not wake up.

I am shattered and I think my incision is infected as all of a sudden it's leaking discharge and it does not smell very pleasant. Looks like a trip to A and E today as my doctors is closed for the NY.
  • Yikes @frankierokx! Hope it's a quick visit. As for husbands not waking up, poke him in the eye! I've said it before, a few quick jabs, they'll wake up!

  • Let your baby scream Frankie, that'll wake him up!

I hope your incision is ok! Take care of it!

Thank you for the well wishes! 11am discharge cannot come soon enough
  • I'm so tired tonight although I'm happy the little guy is now ovcaaionLly going three hours between feedings. This is two nights in a row of this one longer sleep session. It's been every 1 1/2 to 2 hours until now so I hope he's moving toward three hours.

Also I've done every feeding, diaper change, Etc since Sunday when DH was diagnosed with shingles. Some more three hour stretches would be nice!

  • @frankierokx I sure hope you get it looked at so it can be taken care of!

I have my PP appointment at 9 am and it's an hour long drive due to traffic. Yet I'm up with LO and she is wide awake. We are comfort nursing and she is being silly too.

We've been on kind of a weird schedule. We'll have one good night, followed by one bad night. Tonight/last night/whatever she slept for 5 hours straight. The night before we were lucky if she slept 2-3 hours in a row. I have no idea what that's about.

Sounds like us. I love the nights she sleeps through the night, but dread that the next night will suck. Last night was good. Tonight sucks.

  • And we have a diaper full! Here's to hoping that's what's been keeping LO up tonight. It sounds like a big blowout...yuck.

I think she might be sleeping too much during the day prior to our bad nights. I'm going to try and keep her awake for longer spurts today and see if that helps. She may be going too long in between feedings? Who knows.
Yep I think that's what happens my LO. If she sleeps too much during the day, the night isn't the best. So yesterday I would wake her from naps and tonight so far she's slept from 11pm to 3am and I'm hoping she will sleep once she's done eating from 4am-7 or 8am. I could be all wrong, but that's my theory for today I guess.

  • Awake feeding...for some reason LO would not settle down to sleep tonight and I didn't get to bed till after 1. This would be fine except I have to get up early today (by 7) for an appt. SO tired. What I need is 7 straight hrs of sleep but that ain't happening anytime soon. Ah well, coffee is my friend.

  • LO has gas and it's cramping her and my sleep style. Although now she's passed out in my arms. I'm afraid to put her down.
Luckily I got some decet sleep prior to this happening, although I wouldn't mind more. She is real cute in her zebra swaddle with her hands pressed to her face(her doing not mine)
    Congrats @caramarchi !!!

I've also found that rubbing LOs head puts her to sleep. But if I stop before she is the perfect amount of asleep, her eyes flutter open and she gives me the evil eye. Currently trying this to get her to go back down.

This is us except it's patting her bum that works, along with some shushing in her ear if she is crying. I get the one-eyed pirate glare if I stop too soon.

  • Op- congrats!

    Frankie-- take care of yourself!

I'm pumping after feeding to supplement at the next feeding because of his weight loss. Doesn't help that he refuses my left breast no matter what I try (same Lc Tuesday and again today? Tomorrow? Whenever Thursday is....). My left breast won't respond to manual or electric pump so I am hand expressing after each session and thankful for the mLs I'm getting.

  • @swirl25, my LO also likes the patting on her little bum! It's so cute! The shushing has to be so loud though if she's reached the crying point..that's never fun.

  • Put me with the useless husband club, he feels since he works he does not have to get up. He works 6 days a week so yea... I'm really starting to get upset at that point this is hard for me and I can not chug the coffee all night long. Plus he seems to have forgotten people with seizures tend to not do do well with little sleep. I get scared cause one of my triggers is not enough sleep and that is a valid worry esp since I'm home by myself on certain days.

Ugh...I get the working husband needs sleep thing (mine is back to work on Mon) but he still needs to suck it up and help you, especially if lack of sleep is impacting your health. He could take the earlier shift so you can go to bed early and get a few hours and then you could get up later. Or something. He just needs to step up for sure! Hope you figure something out soon.

  • LO has been really fussy today/tonight. I've never not been able to soothe him so it kinda freaks me out. I'm assuming it's gas because he doesn't have a fever or anything but he has been burping and farting so I'm not sure..

  • @MBM02, not super mom at all. Just try oh not to murderalize my DH. He got up with our 2.5yr DD, got her back in bed but fell asleep in her room so I was with DD3 trying to get her to settle and DD2 woke up. I changed her diaper and she went back to sleep but woke up again and he was just snoozing away. Finally went into DD1's room and got him. He was shocked that I was annoyed that he was peacefully snoozing away....ggrrrrr

He's much better now than when we had Dd1. I may have threatened him with "if you fall asleep again I will wake you up in an unpleasant manner." I may have pinched him to get him up tonight.

  • My daughters new thing is being awake and cranky from 3-8 am every morning. Since I usually have insomnia until 3 am anyway, it's a terrible combination. Also (possible tmi), I started my period today which is making my already severely damaged nipples so sore every time I breastfeed. And period hormones plus pp hormones plus sleep deprivation plus sore boobs equals one very unhappy mommy. Oh, add in a grumpy husband and stir crazy three year old to the equation too.

At least I have the bump to share my woes with.

Frankie- I hope you can be seen today and taken care of!
