Those with sick babies

So right now were dealing with the first real cold and it's awful. My issue...so normally at night I put my LO down awake, throw on projector thing, he gets paci and taggie and I'm out, he's asleep in 10 min. Now 2 nights in a row have been awful we've been up with him for hours cuz he's so stuffed and can't breathe and is miserable, even w humidifier. I've let him fall asleep on me the last few days and nap, I know horrible habit but I figured hey 2 days, I'm helping my helpless sick baby get rest and breathe. Now come nights he screams bloody murder and it makes me feel miserable. My question, please tell me I didn't create a bad habit and it's only cuz he's sick!?! Anyone ?

Re: Those with sick babies

  • I hate to say it, but you may have. I dealt with this back in Oct. I was putting DD down awake for nearly a month, then she got an awful cold and I had to hold her upright for awhile after nursing so she could breathe better an she inevitably fell asleep during that time. This was followed by the mother of all sleep regressions, but the something just sort of clicked and as long as she isn't having teething issues she's back to sleeping well.

Honestly though, I felt like it was worth it for DD to know that I would be there for her when she's sick. There's no way I could have left my sick baby to CIO, and the recession was only temporary, it didn't ruin everything forever. ;-)

  • I did that when my daughter was sick. When she was over being sick she went back to her old pattern. The important thing is to be there to comfort your LO while sick. Habits can be fixed later if they need addressing at all.
  • Maybe but when they are sick do whatever it takes. Something else you can try is to prop the head of the bed up with like a towel or something under the mattress. This did wonders for E when he was stuffed up.

  • Thanks! You all made me feel better! Tonight I laid him down after letting him nap on me twice today and I told myself 10 minutes is all I can handle with him crying while sick. Sure enough he passed out. Fingers crossed I'm not up in the middle of the night w him. Poor kid

This times 100. Same boat here.

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

  • Crying when sick makes my dd more stuffy so I avoid it if possible. I have vaporizer blowing into her crib and a flat pillow under the mattress on one side. Seems to help.
