AW Sippy Cups

We finally found the perfect fit! The last two feedings of the day were with sippys! Yippee!! I'm hoping we can just quit bottles now cold turkey. ::Fingers crossed::

He's had several different sippy cups since 6 months old and rarely drank anything out of them. We tried a straw cup which was okay, but I noticed last week he was actually taking water out of one of the Nuby cups with handles However, those he had a hard time maneuvering. He would fling them around by the handle and throw them. We bought the larger Nuby cups with no handles and tried one today and he did really well with it. I promptly went back out to Target and cleared their shelves. :P

I think he was able to transition because the spout is so soft like a bottle nipple and without the handles, he's able to hold them like he holds his bottle. I don't think he even realizes that he's drinking from a cup - I think he thinks it's just a different kind of bottle. Works for me! We'll see how he does when he wakes for his early morning feeding at 5:30!

  • Maybe this is a totally dumb question, but why do you need to transition to sippy cups instead of bottles?
  • We went out and literally bought one of every sippy and straw cup Walmart had and just kept trying new ones until we found one he liked.

  • Doctors suggest it is good for orthodontics and speech related reasons to have your LO transitioned to a sippy cup from a bottle by a year of age. Though some people say as long as you have the bottle completely irradicated by 18 months, it's no worries. I have been slowly pressuring myself (probably a silly thing to do) to get DS accustomed to a sippy cup and I need to just start taking it easy already. He'll get there eventually. But this helps, Drea! I will try a Nuby next.

  • @Rosebean HTH! And honestly, I didn't think we'd ever get there and he'd have a bottle forever! He just randomly was like, "Hmm, okay, I'll do this now."

I think I'm paranoid because I once nannied for a little boy who still took a bottle at 3!

  • we gave our LO a cup since she started solids, around 6 months. Just a week or two ago she finally seemed to "get it." She still loves her bottle, even though she is down to 1-3 per day at this point. She tries to drink out of anything that resembles a bottle. It's so cute.

  • LO really likes the nuby as well but I only give her straw cups and she has done well with those. I guess we will have to wait and see how it goes when we put milk in them at daycare.
