Stupid FTM ? about contractions. . . I don't think it's TMI but it contains poop talk lol

So I am a FTM and I have not had any BH contractions that I could tell. I woke up early this morning with pain in my lower stomach that felt like I had a BM. It would come and go in waves and occasionally I could go to the bathroom, could these be contractions or constipation? It still is happening on and off today with occasional BM to match it. I'd call the doctor but they are closed and I don't want to call the on call doctor because I feel stupid that I am not sure of what I make of the pain, not that I need to go in just if these are in fact contractions. I googled but it didn't help me much as so many things could seem to be a symptom. Thanks for any advice!

    That's what early labor felt like to me. I would go sit on the toilet everytime because that was the only thing that made me feel better somehow.

    My labor contractions definitely felt like pain in my bowels.  I'd start timing them.  Don't feel bad about calling the on call line about pains that you aren't sure about- they get those calls all the time and it's their job to talk you through it.  FX your LO is on their way!

    I was induced and when I started having contractions (able to walk & talk through them still), I felt the urge to poo and I actually did.  I didn't want to not try & then poop on the doctor.  Lol.  A few hours later, DD was born.
