Pork, sauerkraut, greens, and black eyed peas... DH's family always has these "lucky" foods on New Years Day. It's not my favorite, but I like the tradition. DH made an Oreo frosting cake which I do love...

DH went out to play poker with the guys so I'm packing up the kiddos and heading to panera. Figured I would take this chance to get out before the storm hits tomorrow morning!
Lol, I've never heard of "lucky" foods on New Years. In any case, I picked up some shrimp cocktail to make it feel like a holiday. Also having some chicken Parmesan.
I'm having a very similar dinner @ashleynh5. My hubby got a new gas grill for Christmas so he's grilling steaks, asparagus and baked new potatoes with ranch dressing on them.
I really wanted sauerkraut and sausage. It's what we make every New Years Day. I didn't plan appropriately and forgot to pick up the stuff from the grocery store, so we're having chicken teriyaki with grilled pineapple instead.
My family is very superstitious and we always eat the following for New Years:
Rice for prosperity Collard greens for money & wealth Corn bread for gold Black eyed peas for money (coins) And any meat that isn't a bird ... (Eating a bird on New Years means you will be "pecking for money all year long).
We also have a man enter the door first, and no washing clothes (you'll wash someone out of your life) - the house is always cleaned prior to midnight.
I know they all sound dumb to some... But it's what we do. DH is very religious and doesn't believe in it and pleads the blood of Jesus every year! :-)
Oh how lovely as I've been washing clothes all freakin day.....
