Trying to Get Pregnant

Symptoms...a bit of TMI

Ok. Forgive my ignorance. But I'm having some wacky things going on.

I'm on CD 15 of 29. Saw a temperature shift this morning. But it was a pretty serious leap...97.6 to 100. I also haven't gotten any peak days on clear blue, and no positive opk. Although yesterday (or maybe the day before) it was the darkest it had been all cycle, but I think still too light to be a positive.

The last three days I have been craving water. Not like extra thirsty, like I just crave the taste. Never happened before. I also am finding myself waking up a few times a night and wanting to sleep late. (I set an alarm though to make sure I temp at the same time every morning). On top of that, the last 5 hours or so I've been physically sick. Now, I know it's much too early for morning sickness, but still wanted to mention. The weird thing is I dont feel sick like I do when I have the flu, or food illness, or something like that. And also...here's the TMI...the vomit is thick and hard to get out, despite the fact that I've probably had twice as much water this week as I usually have. I could just be sick. But because it feels SO different than anything I've ever experienced and we're TTC, I wanted to get your insights. It's too early to take a pregnancy test, obviously...and I feel like it's unlikely any of this is related to O or pregnancy. But I'm new at this. Haha. Thanks in advance!

Re: Symptoms...a bit of TMI

  • With the fever and sickness, I vote that you're sick. As far as pregnancy or ovulation goes, those symptoms don't match up.

    You're sick.

  • You have a fever, that's not indicative of a normal temp spike.

  • Yeah, that's really what I figured. As far as O...I also thought it could be possible I missed my peak if it happened later in the day and only lasted 12 hours or so. Since this is the first month I've charted it's hard to see patterns at this point. Sorry for the dumb question...like I said, it just doesn't seem like other times I've been sick. :p Thanks for the well wishes!

  • What do you mean "CD 15 of 29" you have no clue how long your cycle will be until you confirm ovulation.

Also, fever + vomiting = stomach bug. They suck, I hope you feel better soon.
  • I guess just going off the average. I've always kept track of how long my cycles last but never charted before. Also, the reason I thought the 100* could be non-illness related is that it's not uncommon for me to run high temps. My normal (non waking) temp is close to 99*.

  • Also, food for thought, my BBT thermometer showed 100...my normal one showed 96.7. I found that odd.

Yeah, averages don't mean anything because then you wind up in situations like this where you think you're having pregnancy symptoms, but had you been temping and charting you'd know that O hadn't even been confirmed yet. Without O, "symptoms" mean squat. You've clearly got some bug going on or ate something that didn't agree with you- take it easy. And I'd recommend starting temping and charting.
  • Like I said, I've always kept track of length and this month I'm charting and temping and using opks. So, yeah...

And I've had the BBT for awhile. I tried starting temping last year to practice FAM as a form of birth control but just never got into it and used condoms instead. When we decided to start TTC, I began temping immediately. I tested twice with it, and no...nothing at all to drink. I took it as soon as I woke up this morning.

Sorry, I was confusing you with another thread I posted on and forgot you do all that. Either way, I'm not sure what else you want us to say.. You're sick. You keep adding additional info as if it'll make us think you're pregnant. You cannot be pregnant if you haven't ovulated. Simple as that.
  • Also, food for thought, my BBT thermometer showed 100...my normal one showed 96.7. I found that odd.
Did you test twice with the BBT? How long have you had it? Did you drink anything hot before using it?
Along with those, did you temp orally with both?  Did you do anything between the two temps?

  • Nope. Not trying to do that. I got my information. But I posted just to get everyone's thoughts. The only additional information I posted was answering several questions about whether or not I'd O'd, to which my response was I wasn't sure because I thought it was possible I missed my peak AND that it was possible my temp is/have been off because of a faulty BBT. I'm not looking for to make anyone think I'm pregnant. Not even myself. I'll confirm that through a stick, not a message board. I'm just experiencing some things I never have before, and because it coincidentally coincided with my first time ttc, I thought I'd get some insights to see if there was any correlation. That was it. I didn't mean to bother anyone.

On that note, I'm off to take some TheraFlu and a nap. Ciao.

  • Both were oral and the process went like this: Woke up, used BBT...100. Threw up, used normal...96.7. The immediately used BBT again...100. I actually had a morning a couple days ago where I used my BBT and then for kicks used it again 30 seconds after getting my result and it was 1* different. No flukes after that.

  • Just answering questions at this point to see if my BBT may be off. I'm taking TheraFlu as we speak. So no.

  • Sounds like a stomach bug to me. Hope you feel better!

  • The BBT being that off is really odd...maybe see how tomorrow goes but you may need a new one?

    Hope you feel better soon.

    Sorry you're ill.

Sounds like one of your thermometers is uncalibrated. In theory, as long as you use the same thermometer every day your chart will still show the rises and falls in your temp, even if the actual temperatures aren't accurate.

ETA: feel better and happy new year!

  • Last week I had a big temp spike, low grade fever (99 degrees), and no symptoms. The following morning the stomach flu hit full force so you might already have a virus/bacteria and your body is already responding although it hasn't fully hit you. All those symptoms sound like you are sick, even if you've never had some of those type of symptoms before.

Drink lots of water, the fact that you are craving it means you need more. Thirst doesn't show up until you are already dehydrated so if you are craving water, drink up.

Also, you may be gearing to O. The sleeping disturbances might be illness related or might be O related. I usually sleep very poorly around O, not sure why.

As far as pregnancy goes, you can discard that one. It's too early in your cycle to be showing any kind of pregnancy symptoms, especially if you haven't even O'd.

  • I appreciate the comments that others have have made saying they've been fooled by it. Like I said in the OP, I was pretty sure it was unlikely it had anything to do with O or pregnancy. But apparently those who thought I was "grasping at straws" trying to make others think I was pregnant didn't read that part. Still glad to know I wasn't the only one who questioned those symptoms.

I was sick the week before last with something similar.  I took a pregnancy test, too, but it was right before I got my period (was physically ill on Tuesday, CD1 on Thursday) and we are still avoiding, but there's a learning curve for MH with condoms since he never used them until very recently, so it could have been logical.  I also got a low grade fever and a temp spike, but felt reasonably ok, other than being bloated.  Went home from work at 1, bought a pregnancy test, took it, and was hugging the toilet by 1:30.  I'm just saying that that damned bug fooled me, too.

I'd say if you've been physically ill and your regular thermometer is saying 96.X, that thermometer is probably buggy.
there's a learning curve with condoms? lol What was he doing with them?
I, too, am curious! What's the learning curve for using condoms?

  • Sounds like you're sick. Sorry! And just by going by days if you actually have ovulated between your last period and now, it would be wayyyyyy wayyy wayyyyy too early for you to be getting morning sickness, if any symptoms at all.

    It's a BOY
