Bottles to Cups at Daycare?

Right now DD takes 3 bottles at daycare and will drink milk with meals through a sippy.  I am going to ask this at her one year appointment, but am I supposed to be having her transition off the bottles to all sippy?  How the heck is that supposed to happen?  Is anyone doing this already?  Man, since DD took 5 months to be able to take a bottle I feel like we are just getting the hang of bottles and now we are supposed to switch!

Re: Bottles to Cups at Daycare?

  • I just had this conversation at our 12 month check up yesterday. DS takes four bottles currently of a formula and whole milk mixture, two at d/c and two at home. Our doctor suggested to get rid of one bottle at d/c, then bottles all together at daycare and then either the morning or night one and finally the last one. DS actually takes sippy cups much better at d/c then at home, so I'm thinking it will be pretty easy. It's the morning and before bed ones I'm most concerned with.

  • My daycare has been such a help in this area. I have been trying different sippies and sending them to daycare since she was 7 months. At the 10 month mark we started with the Zoli cup and DD really took to it. Once her daycare teacher saw her drink a whole cup of formula, she told me to stop sending the bottles. So once they saw that she could and would drink from the cup, they no longer offered bottles. I would still send one bottle just in case, but they never used it. This was all without me saying a word. I just added the cup to her bag, and they knew what to do.

  • I'm a SAHM so no daycare but we just eliminated one bottle at a time. First I got him down to 3 bottles a day ( morning, afternoon and before bed) and then switched one bottle to a straw sippy. We did the afternoon one first. I would offer it in his straw cup and let him try. At first he would only take a few drinks and then get mad so then I would just put it in his bottle. It took a few tries but he got the hang of it and now this week we switched the morning bottle to a cup and he has no problem with it. I think the bedtime bottle will be a little bit harder but I think I will just try and give it to him before bedtime and hope for the best.

Oh I forgot to mention that we do WCM in the cups not formula.
