I don't know of anyone who shaved their baby's head, but I do know of a few babies who were born with hair, went totally bald without the aid of a razor, and then had it grow back in a totally different texture or color. My cousin's baby did that around 5-6 months.
I guess if my baby went bald unevenly, I might use an electric cutter of some kind to make it look less odd.
This turned into a very interesting thread. I'd had no clue this was a cultural thing. See? You learn something new everyday! I also understand cutting your baby's hair so it's not that crazy weird different lengths. I'm crazy enough I could see myself doing something like that. I just don't see myself doing it simply because I want my kiddo to have thick hair. Lol Emma was pretty much bald until she was 13 months and she has crazy thick hair now.
Well, one thing I'll say, is that after we cut DD's hair, it came in more evenly. But not any thicker. The funny thing is that both sides of the family has thick hair, except her. My hair is thick enough that I usually get it thinned out a couple times a year.
I have three nephews and each one had his head shaved around the age of one. Two out of three have thick hair. We took them to the barber shop to get buzzed, we were afraid to do it at home. It really isn't such a big deal (or maybe I'm so used to it?). The bald heads do make adorable pictures
I was hoping to find a pic of one of my nephews with shaved heads but apparently I don't have one. Here is a pic of my cousins baby girl bald. She is 13 months here, so her hair is just protruding.
Well, I know for a fact they didn't do it for any cultural reasons.
Also, I am half Mexican and had never heard of it, but that obviously means nothing since I'm sheltered enough to have not known people did this in other cultures regularly.
@KEFam5 Just because it may not be part of their culture as a couple, doesn't mean it isn't part of the extended family's/grandparents culture etc. That's pretty presumptuous of you to say you know for a fact that isn't their culture!
Giving you the benefit of the doubt that it isn't a cultural thing, they may have heard about it from someone that does believe in this practice.
So as odd as it seems to you, it's quite common to others.
They actually said that the only reason they did it was because a cosmologist friend suggested it to make it grow faster. @andyleah

@andyleah
It's something a lot of people do.
