Got the steroid shot - OUCH!

I'm 3cm, 70% effaced, and +1 station, so the doctor wanted to do a "just in case" steroid shot series for the baby's lungs (I know, he could stay in there weeks, but it was the doctor's idea)

Those steroid shots HURT!  Anyone else want to commiserate??

Re: Got the steroid shot - OUCH!

  • They suck! @mamahollywood27 tipped me off on a good trick - rub, or better yet, have someone else rub the area where the shot went it. It really reduces the ouch factor the next day.

I hope baby hangs out a while longer, glad to see you're 35 weeks tomorrow! Are you having contractions?
Yes, but not bad ones.  My 2nd baby played Labor Fakeout for 4.5 weeks so I have a feeling I have a few more weeks to go.  I wouldn't turn down a spontaneous labor at 38.5 though :)

I'll make my husband rub my butt tonight :P

  • They do suck! I second tlex- have DH rub it in real good! She told me that trick and it really helps!

Glad you're not having bad contractions- hopefully baby is just playing games on you like your last one did!

  • With my first shot the nurse gave it to me and walked away.  It was like FIRE.  With the second shot the nurse rubbed in a circle for 5 minutes afterwards and it really did make a huge difference.  :)  Hope all our LOs hang out for a lot longer.

  • I guess I'm just weird because I thought the TDAP shot was way worse for some reason!

I have heard that too…haven't had mine yet, but it's coming.  The sad part is that TDAP is one of the first shots our babies will have (I can't remember exactly but it is either with the 2 or 4 month shots).

  • Yes, I was surprised at how those suckers hurt! Totally worth the discomfort, though! Hopefully your LO decides to stay put for awhile!

  • Those muthas hurt, and you'll be sore tomorrow. Definitely rub and get the shot in the other cheek tomorrow. FX baby stays in longer.
  • Ouch, ladies!!! I don't mind IVs but shots really freak me out. I had three rounds of something with a T last night to stop contractions- they were in my arm and I had DH squeeze the other arm really tight to help distract me! Maybe he could squeeze the other butt cheek?! Hahah
  • I definitely thought tdap was worse! I also take medicine monthly via injection and those mothers sting...or it may be my extra rear end coushion that made me not feel it much? Lol

Hoping your LO stayyyyys cookin!! Having an outside baby is fun but a full term outside baby is even more fun!

  • I had the shot in my leg it did burn pretty bad. But thank god for the shot because my little munchkin was born 7 hours later and his lungs were stronger because of it. My munchkin was 33 weeks and is in the nicu getting stonger :). Prayers to you that your baby stays in your belly full term ;)
