Screaming during diaper changes?

The past few days DS has been super cranky. He will be 34 weeks tomorrow (will turn 8 months on the 8th). I just looked it up and 34 weeks is the start of another fussy period according to wonder weeks, but the weird thing is he seems to be exhibiting the symptoms for the last wonder week instead of the upcoming one. I remember reading for the last fussy period some of the signs were hating diaper changes and some separation anxiety. Well at the time he never really had those issues but lately he has been super clingy to me and wants to nurse all the time. But the real problem is the diaper changes. He screams absolute bloody murder for every single one. It doesn't matter if he's just been fed or has just woken up (so not hungry or tired). He also doesn't have a rash. I don't think it's the A&D or desitin because we've been using both since the beginning plus he starts wailing as soon as you lay him on the changing table. It's horrible and I just wish I could fix it. Just now I changed him and he almost made himself throw up crying so hard. Anybody else have this problem?

    So I just re-read and apparently clingyness and refusing diaper changes are also signs of the 34 week fussy period also. So I guess he just hit the next wonder week but still these screaming diaper changes are awful...

    I haven't really been following the wonder weeks stuff, and I wouldn't say my babies scream during the diaper changes themselves - but they've just started crawling and now during all diaper changes they immediately roll over, sit up, try to crawl off...and when I restrain them, then they cry. It's awful. I actually posted about this on Facebook last night and my friends with toddlers said that this is pretty much real life until they're potty trained. Some said they distract their kid with their phone. One said she nurses during diaper changes, which I can't even fathom how that works.

    So yeah, fun times. I hope the bad screaming is short-lived for you though.

    yes! as soon as I put S down to change her diaper she starts screaming at me. I have to be quick about it to stop it from turning into actual crying. She's so squirmy though that it's hard to get her diaper on right!

    He isn't crawling yet but is rolling and scooting all over the place. DH has been off of work since Christmas so we have been doing all diaper changes together since DS is so out of control. He tries to roll and twist in mid-air and he screams the whole time. I'm dreading DH going back to work Thursday because I really don't know how I will handle it by myself!

     And nursing during a diaper change?!? Wow that woman is talented!

    ^ I'm wondering if her husband (my BIL) actually changes the diaper while she leans over and sticks her boob in the kid's face. I've been thinking about it and I just can't imagine any other way it could work.

    You could do as the French apparently do and just not change him... Kidding.

    Again, sorry, I have no advice... I'm in the same boat!

    My ds sometimes gets fussy but he mainly spins like a gator. He also does everything in his power to try and fall of the changing table. I usually give him something to play with to occupy him and that works about half the time.

    At the last WW is when LO started to hate diaper changes and hasn't stopped hating. If DH is home with me I always make him help bc LO is so strong and nothing distracts him long enough.

    I recently found online the Hulabye Happy Changer and the Hug n Hold. It's a vest that attaches to the changing pad to keep them from rolling over. Haven't tried it but I definitely want to invest in one!!

    @LaurenJeff10 No I definitely don't keep track of how old he is in weeks! I only mentioned it because of the timing with wonder weeks. I bookmarked a website that calculates baby's age in weeks to figure it out.

    Same! J likes to look at the characters. If that doesnt work I blow raspberries on his tummy. That breaks him out of crying for 15 seconds atleast.

    J is super squirmy. We also have a changing pad cover with monkeys on it. I'm about to retire it because he keeps trying to flip over and "get" the monkey mid-diaper change. Fun times

    So far today it's been so much better. He hasn't cried for a single change! I've been giving him a toy to play with and he's been happy with that. Why that's working now when I tried with the same toy all day yesterday I have no idea! But I'm glad.
