Keeping LO warm in car

I have read a lot about car seat safety and that LOs shouldn't wear coats while in their car seat. What do you ladies use to keep your baby warm in the car?

Re: Keeping LO warm in car

  • I use blankets and tuck them around her. Though she usually gets so hot in her seat that I remove most of the blankets when we are in the car and put them back on before taking her back outside. I also put a hat on her.

  • I make sure the first layer is a nice long sleeve something fleece. I also pre-warm our truck or car so the vehicle is warm. I have a fleece greeter deterrent (which keeps down the wind/breeze). Socks and a cap will help keep the body heat in as well.

  • Warm the car up if it's super cold, but usually just tuck blankets around her after she's buckled in.

Like pp said, our LO also gets super hot and sweaty in the car. If we are going to be in the car for any length of time, I actually always make sure she is in short sleeves. If it's cold out, Before getting out of the car, I just put a hat on her, cover her to her chin with a blanket, and then cover the whole seat with a blanket.

I live in FL too! We traveled to Missouri for Christmas and my mom bought us a Cozy Cover. It stretches over his carrier and has elastic all around. There is a little flap over his face and then two zippers that open towards his feet. It kept him super warm. I did tuck a light blanket around his feet too.

  • If it very cold I warm the car up. I also use a JJ Cole car seat cover, shower cap style, so nothing is between LO and coarsest or straps. Usually I unzip half way or so in the car because he gets so hot.

  • She wears a fleece and then I bundle a blanket around her.  I take the blanket off if we're going to be in the car a while because she also gets too warm.  It's often significantly below 0 here in the winter, so it's important to bundle them up really well.

With DD1 I used to take her coat off before putting her in the seat, but once DD2 was here it was too hard for getting her in and out (especially when it is 30 below!)  So I bought her a coat that is thin enough to go in the seat but is still warm (not cheap, but worth the convenience).

  • We use the JJ cole bundle me. If it's extra cold we use another blanket underneath it.
  • Thanks everyone! I will go out and purchase a cover. I was just always worried she couldn't breathe with it over her.
  • A second shout out for the JJ Cole Bundle Me. That is probably my best baby gear purchase yet... Especially when the high temp is NEGATIVE 8.
