October 2012 Moms

@piffle42

Talk to me about your Ferber.  Did you buy the book?  Research online?  Wing it?  We have to do something.  Bedtime is getting absolutely ridiculous.  I am not looking forward to it, but I think I can get on board with it now.  Everything I can find easily accessible online (without having to buy something) is all for babies.  What did Ferber suggest for toddlers?

At this point, we are winging it more than anything.  We rock her till she is either asleep or almost there, and put her down.  She promptly stands up and cries.  We walk out and close the door.  I keep an eye on her in the monitor to make sure she hasn't flung herself off the bed or anything.  Some nights she screams so hard she has snot running down her face, has the hiccups, and sounds hoarse for a while.  Other nights she stays at the "I don't like this, come get me now" annoyed cry for about half an hour then lays down.  or she will sit down and take 3-4 minute catnap dozes so she can stand up and scream some more.

I know my pedi recommended the 3 day sleep solution to a friend, and it worked well for her.  But again, all I can find is how to do it with babies, rather than toddlers.

  • I wonder if my library has it.  Hmmm....

    I'm so glad it worked out so well for you!  Middle of the night is no big deal as long as I bring her into our bed.  I actually really like the snuggles.  But naps are KILLING ME.  I know I need to be consistent across all sleeping times though, so MOTN will probably be hardest for me.  Blah.

    I also think routine is a big deal.  We have a general routine.  We say night-night to Daddy, say our prayers, then go do diaper, lavender on her feet, then jammies.  We turn out the light and turn on her heartbeat bear and her turtle and butterfly that project stars to the ceiling, and snuggle for a bit. Then I lay her down...and then she stands up and screams.  When Husband does it, he actually lays down next to her and snuggles her. (The front of her crib is off, and we have a regular bedrail on there that flips down.) Obviously it's a lot less traumatic for her that way, but isn't really doing anybody any favors.

  • Yep. The doing it herself is the big issue. If we rock/snuggle/etc she's golden. But lord have mercy if that baby wakes up.

  • @WanderingStars23 I don't! Just a nook. I am gonna check out our library though. If all else fails, I will download the kindle app and see if you can loan it that way. :) Thanks!

  • Holy shitnuggets! We did a diaper, we read Good Night Gorilla, then we rocked and snuggled for a couple minutes. I walked out of the room at 12:36. At 12:45 she was laying down and dozing. A couple more 30 second crying jags, and at 1:00 she was asleep!!! I'm not sure what to do with myself! This never works! LOL Usually she screams for an hour and a half.

  • I sat on my ass and watched Graham Norton and ate cookie dough. LOL

    she napped for about 45 minutes. Seeing as how that was nap #2, I call it a win.

    Like CnAnA we are struggling with sleep. I have a kindle and would love to read the Ferber book if you wouldn't mind sharing it with me.
