what do you do during the day on xmas eve?

I'm sort of stumped and of course should have thought about it before 930 pm on the 23rd. Just curious though...we have always traveled to see family at xmas and so this year we are in our own home & are planning to go out for an early  meal & do a few family gifts over cookies & wine when we get home... but we have no idea what to do during the day! At first we thought about a museum or something really active but if the kids (esp DS) dont take a short nap, they'll end up being horrific at dinner & for the gifts/xmas eve celebrating and it will be no fun. But, can't just sit around doing nothing all day esp since we're not prepping any food for the night.

If you don't host/cook/travel/spend the day getting ready for xmas eve, what do you do during the day? thanks!

and on a totally unrelated note, I actually googled ideas and came across a british message board where they were discussing when to put out their christmas hampers....I had never heard of this mysterious 'hamper' and had to google it, apparently a tradition of a basket/bucket/container of goodies that is put under the tree! fun ;). Maybe I ishould just look up traditions in other countries for ideas ;)

    I have a pretty normal day until about dinner time. I am hitting the gym in the morning before they close. Then it is any last minute cleaning and dinner prep that needs to be done. We will probably listen to Christmas music while cleaning and prep.

    DH usually works. DD and I are cleaning and getting last minute stuff ready for Christmas Eve. We will probably leave around 4 so we definitely need to have a nap. It will be low key this morning.

    We host Christmas, so C-Eve is about getting ready. DH or I go pick up a HoneyBaked ham first thing in the morning and then clean the house. Then we eat lunch, take showers, then go to mass, and head to my mom's for dinner.

    We just hung out, played, had naps, and went to xmas eve at my brothers.  I wish we had some more active play, but I didn't want to deal with the crowds or spend the money.  Weather here was crappy.

    LOL! Monkey Joe's sounds fun! We decided to go to our children's museum which was a total zoo b/c it was free admission day which we didn't realize...

    Late to reply.... but we have a great Eve day.... we make maple popcorn and other goodies for our neighbors. This year the kids made cards too. We delivered goodies and sang We Wish You A Merry Christmas. We also usually watch a movie and decorate a gingerbread house and then make a big dinner, write Santa's letter and read Twas The Night Before Christmas.
