Potty Training

Where is everyone on this situation?  Elliott is becoming VERY interested in it and I've been taking him to the potty and he will pee in it most of the time.  His diapers don't seem to be as wet either so I think he is understanding how it works.  Thinking about when to start serious potty training...don't want it to just seem like a game, but also don't want to introduce it too soon and make him hate it.

Re: Potty Training

  • Daisy has been interested for a little while I think once the holidays are over and things are back to normal we will tackle it head on and see how it goes.

  • We are going to start after the holidays/around her first birthday.

  • I don't see us starting until she's close to 3. She shows no interest or understanding of it now except she likes to flush. Plus with the baby I don't have energy to commit to it anytime soon.

  • L is interested, but like others he won't actually go when on the toilet. He tells me before he has to poop, but pee is not at all registering with him yet. I am not sure even when he pees. His diapers are less wet and then get soaking wet since he holds and goes all at once, so I guess that moves in the right direction. I think we may try this summer.

  • Lucia has some small interest in it, but doesn't seem ready yet to me.  When I do it, I'd like to do it once and quickly so I'm in no hurry to start too early.  On top of that, I really prefer diapers - it's so much easier than always having to be worried when you are out and about, or always having to remind them, so that's my selfish reason for not speeding it along :)

  • We got my daughter a potty for Christmas but it don't plan to really start until summer. I am want to try the 3 day potty training method. If she really starts to show interest before summer then maybe we will try sooner. I don't feel she is close to being ready at the moment.

  • Allison just started to actually pee on the little potty we have for her.  We have had it for months and it was nothing more than a place to sit until now.  Today she has peed on it twice...she was going diaper free after her shower with DH and peed on the floor then stopped and said "uh oh, potty" so we went to the bathroom and she finished on the potty.

She is going to be ready before we are...

  • He's very interested in sitting on the potty and will tell us right after he goes pee or poop in his diaper that he needs to be changed. He has never actually gone pee or poop on the potty though, so he doesn't really get it. I'm thinking he won't be ready until at least 2.5, maybe even 3. That's fine with me. Having a child PT is nice after they REALLY get it, but there is an in between stage where it's kind of "scary" (for lack of a better word).
