High bp reading this morning

140/91 ugh. Ate some food, chugged water and am now in bed on my left side hoping it goes down so I don't have to call my doctor. I know if I go in and it's high, they'll induce me today! I am not ready yet for an early bambino. I still have some boxes to unpack, and I need to clean the apartment and get ready for family who will be staying with us. And it's NYE! Whooosaaaaahh....

  • I was a little bit, but I don't think it was enough to raise it that much tho. I'm going to check it again in a few now that I've stopped moving completely and see.

  • Hoping it goes down for you! Baby needs to stay in until you're ready.

  • Fingers crossed it goes back down for you! I had a high BP reading last week at my appointment and then mid-week as well. But it was back down to a low-normal range at yesterday's appointment. I'm hoping yours goes back as well!

  • It went back down! 128/74 now. I think it may take a while for my Methydolpa (bp med) to start working first thing in the morning. My bp is always high then but completely fine in the afternoon. Sooo glad I don't have to call my doctor!

  • So glad to hear that it went down. But really, 140/91 isn't too high anyway, especially for a sufferer of chronic hypertension. I have the same issue -- it takes a couple of hours to go down after I take my first dose of my meds in the morning. It's weird because you'd think that after sleeping that it would be low, but mine is usually around 155/110 when I wake up and takes a few hours (after meds) to go back down.

Has your doctor talked to you at all about switching to a stronger BP med? I used to be on Methyldopa and it stopped working for me, so they switched me to a stronger one that works much better.
  • @peanutmuse I do want to try other medicine once this baby is born so this doesn't happen next time. Both times that my bp was high at my doctor's office and I was sent to L&D were 8:00 a.m. appointments. I read somewhere online that Methydolpa takes between 2 to 6 hours for its full effect. My Dr didn't want to experiment with new medicine when they already knew I wouldn't have a bad reaction to this one. Another Dr in the practice group mentioned putting me on something more modern and I wish he had done it. I might have been able to put off induction until 40 weeks if I hadn't had those two high readings.

  • What dosage of methyldopa do you take?

I still think it's weird how different doctors react to blood pressure issues. I think I pay a lot of attention to it around here, just because it's a problem that I have (obviously). My OB wouldn't bat an eyelash at 140/91. In fact, my "good" pressure that I wrote about this morning was 138/91, lol. And I know you are a chronic hypertension girl like me, so if there are any people who would have similar experiences, it would be the two of us. But still, your OB is obviously much more sensitive about it than mine is -- for lack of a better term. I think that's how she is across the board, though.

Sometimes I wonder if it's my age, though. Although if I remember correctly -- and I don't mean to be offensive about this, because I am 36 -- but I think you are AMA too. Is that right?

  • @peanutmuse You are exactly right! I recently turned 39 in November. The AMA puts us in a higher pre-e risk, along with this being our first pregnancies. Joy... Currently, I'm taking 500 MG twice a day. I hear that's a small dosage too.
