Stretch marks

I think I'm already starting to get stretch marks on my abdomen! I was a normal BMI before getting pg and have gained 10 pounds. I'm wondering when most moms get stretch marks and if anyone else has them yet? I'm 15 weeks along. I've never had stretch marks before so I'm not even sure that's what these are, they are very, very faint right now. Thank you!!

Re: Stretch marks

  • With my first none showed up until after she was born and they were super light and really low on my belly and are now completely gone but I did get ones on my ass...those are still there and showed up in my third trimester but have significantly lightened up

  • I had a few old ones from puberty and I've noticed that the tips of them aren't silvery anymore but getting pink again.
  • I didn't get any with either daughter until after 30 weeks or so.

  • did anyone get them despite using cocoa butter or any other remedy you hear abt? I've been using palmers, 15 wks now... nothing yet, thankfully.
  • I started to get them about a week to two weeks ago, I'm now 15w and I haven't gained a pound! They are on both sides of my abdomen. I find that cocoa butter cream is helping to keep them a light colour and my skin less dry, but it's not helping with actually 'preventing' them.

  • Mine seen to be hormonal rather than skin actually stretching. I got a few during IVF (tons of meds!) and a few more since becoming pregnant. They're mostly on my hips/outer upper thighs. After all we've done to get pregnant, they're tiger stripes. No shame :)

Not to burst your bubble but I got them with my first two. I used coco butter and bio oil. They didnt show up until about 36 weeks and I delivered at 38 weeks with both kids. I have a lot of stretch marks. Ugh! I hate them. I used everything after pregnancy too. They fade but they are still there. I haven't gotten any new ones yet. My mom has not one stretch mark. So if its genetic I did not get her genes when it comes to stretch marks.
  • I used cocoa body butter and oil 2x a day from 7 weeks on with DS, got them on my boobs and thighs early and my stomach at week 39. I thought I was in the clear, nope. The lotions are really just for itching, but I'm lubing up daily with this one again.
  • Stretch marks can be hereditary. If you're not gain much and already have some I think this is most likely due to genes. My grandmother, mother, aunts and sister all got stretch marks while pregnant. I used every lotion and oil I could get my hands on and still got them :( I think the best way to "manage" them is to pace your weight gain and stay hydrated.
  • Didn't get them until 38 weeks with my first pregnancy and then only got 2 above my belly button with the second...
I used cocoa butter every time I went pee!

This exactly for me only I will be 17w on Thursday.  I really like the Palmer's Tummy Butter it helps with the itching as well.

My boobs have them now. Itchy as fuck. I shouldnt be allowed in public.

This. I have no shame here either. Hey, men can scratch their balls without shame. My girls are itchy damn it, I'm gonna scratch them!

This.. All of this! My boobs have gotten so itchy I don't even care who watches me scratch them. "Oh you think that's gross eh? Your the one watching!" And that's how I feel about that!
  • None yet for me, but I'm only about 17 weeks. My mom had them and I got them during puberty, so I'm pretty sure it will happen.
  • Totally genetic and I also think that if you're in awesome shape before hand, that can help. I was about 6 months with my first, popped out and it was all over. I went from flat stomach to baby belly so fast there is no way my skin could keep up! I have stretch marks from my pubic bone to about an inch above my belly button plus my boobs and inner thighs. I have them really bad. Cocoa butter, mederma, you name it, I tried it. If you're going to get them, there isn't much you can do about it. You just have to remind yourself that you are beautiful no matter what and these are your reminders of how amazing your body is, to bring life into the world!

  • I used Palmers cocoa butter lotion with my first and got deep, wide, mean stretch marks from my naval down. The further down, the deeper they are. I didn't have any for a long time and then at some point late in the 2nd trimester, I woke up with them and it progressively got worse. I also got them on my hips and breasts. As far as genetics go, my mother got stretch marks, but neither of my two sisters did in their pregnancies--only me. I'm using Burt's bee mama bee oil and belly balm and honest co. Belly balm & plenty of water. Hopefully it will keep them from redeveloping or from getting worse.

  • Thanks everyone for sharing!

  • With my son, I got them all over my butt, hips, and boobs (I swear, I looked like a zebra!) and just one, somewhat large one right on my tummy. I'm almost 17 weeks and have a few new ones starting to form on my tummy.

I started out using Palmer's but I've switched over to Sanctuary Spa Mum To Be and considering starting to order from Honest.

  • Right now I am 16 weeks and have them horribly. There are 5 really deep and noticeable ones on my stomach and a lot on my thighs, even though I haven't gained more than a half pound. It is very crappy for my self-esteem. =(

I can't remember when I got them with ds1. I got a ton on my belly and boobs. So pretty. I bathed in all the creams and oils and it didn't matter in the end. Bio oil, olive oil, burts bees, cocoa butter- everything.

To add insult to injury I got PUPPS with my first and it started in my stretchmarks and quickly went everywhere. That was awful.

Ds2 I got 2 new ones. I must have been all stretched out.

  • I am 18 weeks, first pregnancy. I have always worked out/ran and have had a tight core. Last week I could already see some sprouting on my newly grown boobs and the sides of my stomach. They run in my family so I knew there was no stopping them. I am just disappointed they have come so soon.

  • Not yet but I was severely overweight a while back, so I had loose skin and faint ones as a result of my weight loss. None as of now and this is my first, and I'll be 18 weeks tomorrow.

I do lotion up at night and in the morning I shower and apply a good amount of coconut oil on my stomach/ass/boobs before I get out to help keep me sane, because otherwise I'm itchy as hell and can't stand it.

  • I had none with DS, which is strange because he was HUGE.

With DD I got 3 small ones above my belly button, not until like the very very end (like I was literally 40 weeks- I went past due 4 days).  They lightened and were barely noticeable but now that I am pregnant again with an outie, they have become more visible.
