Success using frozen embryos?

My husband and I gave birth to our first child in August after having success with IVF. We were able to freeze 3 embryos when we did the initial transfer. We are going to try to transfer 2 of them in July/August. Just wondering if any of you ladies have had success using frozen embryos and what the procedure is for it??

My son is from and FET and my current pregnancy is from and FET.
Every RE has a different protocol but the process is MUCH less for an FET than it is for a fresh IVF.

Me! 33 weeks 2 days pregnant with a frozen embryo. We transferred one and it took! My fresh cycle prior ended in a late term loss due to complications of a twin pregnancy. Reason why we only transferred one for the frozen cycle. Sometimes transferring two only increases your chances of multiples. Something to consider. Good luck!!

I'm pregnant with adopted frozen embryos. I'm not sure if it was the one that was frozen over 10 years, or 7 years...but it was frozen a very long time! Good luck!

Same here! We had two frozen embryos and we transferred both. I have a singleton pregnancy.

FWIW- My RE told me that IVF trends are changing and frozen transfers are starting to be the suggestion. So, after a retrieval, they are suggesting patients freeze and then do a frozen transfer. This allows your body to really calm down from the IVF. I've noticed that many REs now have almost the same success rates for IVF and FETs.

I had success with a single embryo transfer (frozen) in August. I'm currently 21 weeks pregnant. The FET process is very easy and low-cost compared to a fresh IVF cycle. I have done both a "Natural" cycle (which was cancelled due to insufficient lining) and a "Medicated" cycle, which was a success. To be a candidate for a natural cycle, you need to ovulate regularly/have periods on your own, and you will only medicate with progesterone shots or suppositories leading up to transfer and following the transfer until you are about 10w pregnant. Natural cycles require frequent monitoring and blood checks.

For a medicated cycle, there are different protocols of medications. I did lupron and vivelle estrogen patches to prime my lining, and then I did progesterone in ethyl oleate shots for 8 weeks following my BFP. The medicated cycle is super easy...just follow the meds protocol, which I was used to from fresh cycles, and then go in for a lining check on like day 16 of the cycle or so. If it's above 8mm thick, then they'll schedule you for transfer in 5-6 days or so and you begin using progesterone on the day of the lining check. Then you go in for a beta pregnancy test 10-12 days after the transfer (2ww).

My RE says that if your lab has good freezing techniques (vitrification is best nowadays for good thawing rates) then FETs have an equally high or higher chance of success to fresh transfers. We only did one transfer with ONE embryo, and I'm so glad we did. Good luck!

We transferred 1 FET with success so far. We were on a natural cycle--no medications prior or after. We tracked our ovulation similar to an IUI procedure and then came in for the FET 5 days after a positive OPK. We have 6 other frozen embryos and will most likely try in the next two years.

We had success on our first FET. The initial FET attempt got cancelled before we made it to transfer due to my lining issues. Protocols are going to vary from clinic to clinic and person to person. The one where I was successful was an unusual protocol due to the lining issue I had the first attempt. Good luck!

I am 17w6d pregnant with my FET baby. Like @BBColt78 said, we waited until the cycle after my ER to transfer my day 5 frozen blast, as recommended by my RE, and thankfully it worked! Best of luck to you!

I've had 4 FETs: 3 transferring 2 day5 blastocysts, 1 transferring 1 day6 morula. All three of my double transfers became singleton pregnancies. I miscarried the first two (unrelated to the FET) and I'm cautiously expecting the third this May.

I've had two fresh transfers of rockstar quality blasts and neither made it to the beta draw. So for our third retrieval we froze all. With vitrification, thaw rates are awesome (we've lost one out of eight to the defrost process and the doc was surprised by that one- its rare!) and your body isn't fighting as hard as during a fresh transfer. They're so much more gentle.

I'm 17w3d from my 2nd frozen transfer! My first fresh cycle resulted in an ectopic and my first frozen was a BFN. We only transferred one each time. We haven't lost any of our embryos during defrosting and we have a bunch left.

The transfer itself is just like a fresh transfer, same exact process. My protocol leading up to the transfer was super easy. Estrogen patches, progesterone shots, baby asprin and I think an antibiotic or steroid right around transfer day. I only had 2 monitoring appointments, the first at the beginning of the cycle and then one a few weeks in to check my lining. As others have said it's a lot less intense then a fresh cycle.

Also as PP mentioned, I have seen a lot of posters on the IF board saying their doctors recommend frozen cycles over fresh. It does seem to be the direction everyone is heading in. Good luck!

We never had a fresh cycle because of my bad OHSS, so I can't really compare my FET to anything. My ER was on 9/6 and my FET was on 10/6. But it seems like the actual transfer-day procedure is pretty much the same. The difference I believe is the prep/drug protocol leading up to the FET. There were a whole slew of drugs, including estrogen and PIO, that I had to take leading up to it. I was monitored every other day beginning 4 days after starting the estrogen, and then once my lining got to a certain thickness and I started the PIO I was monitored everyday to make sure everything looked good for my scheduled transfer day...it was almost exactly 3 weeks after I got my period after ER, so pretty darn accurate as if I got pregnant naturally that cycle. Using my LMP I'm only one day off for my due date, which is what they try to do so your body is as "natural" as possible. We have 15 more frosties waiting for us once we're ready for #2 :-)

Edit: I just wanted to add that we did eSET and were lucky enough to have it stick our first try!
