Re: TTT!

  • 1. Just got done with my u/s and blood work. Looks like there will be three good follicles. They aren't ready yet, so back we go either Thursday or Friday for another check.

    2. I ate cereal at 4:30...I am starving now.

    3. Now we both still have full days of work ahead of us. Yuck.

    4. I doubt we will see the ball drop. I'm totally ok with that. I'm very glad I have tomorrow off so we can both sleep in.

    5. A lunch time nap might be in my future.

    6. I'm a tiny bit terrified that we could end up with triplets. We will be happy and blessed with whatever we get. As long as everyone is healthy.

    7. The sun is finally coming up!

    8. Just finished shopping for C's work. Now to find something to eat!

    9. I'm glad we had to be in Buffalo so early because the latest lake effect snow is starting to hit. We'll be out before it gets too bad I think.

    10. I hope 2014 brings all of us still TTC our coveted BFPs...plus healthy pregnancies and healthy full term babies. I hope everyone who is pregnant stays that way and has healthy full term babies as well!

    Have a great day everyone!

    Me: 30  DW (aka C): 29

Together since 2/15/11 ~ Legally married in NY on 9/29/12

11/14/14 -  Second HSG shows that tubes are still clear and ute is looking good.

12/6/14 - Started BCPs in prep for IVF #2

12/22/14 - Saline u/s and endometrial scratch (All was clear and OUCH!)

    1/2/15 - Began stimming for IVF #2

  • 1. I cannot believe that it is New Years Eve, where did this year go?  It is so true that the older you get the faster time goes.
    2. I am officially 5 weeks pregnant today, craziness!
    3. I used to care less about eating breakfast, now I wake up starving every morning!
    4. I am finding it challenging to eat a balanced diet and drink enough water in a day.
    5. My sister found out she is having a boy.  Now I am really crossing my fingers we have a girl.  But we will take whatever God blesses us with.  We are 10 weeks apart, so funny.
    6. Our holidays with family were unusually uneventful.  I have shared that my family is dysfunctional, but we had a pretty much perfect day.  Then my wife's parents and little sister came to visit on Saturday and overall we had a good time.  They are a little difficult to be around because they are VERY laid back, slow and VERY country people.  The nice part was that her step mom made the whole meal in my kitchen.  So I got to be in my own house and not have to cook!  Double bonus!
    7. I really would like to get all of our Christmas stuff put away today, let's see if that actually gets done or not :-)
    8. I would go crazy without all of the great people on this board.  All I can think about is being pregnant and wanting to tell everyone.  We have probably told more people then you 'should' but I am just the type of person that doesn't keep things to themselves.  Plus if we do experience a loss, why should we have to do it alone?  I have never had a loss and I hope I don't ever, but we will cross that bridge when we get there.
    9. We are staying in tonight and babysitting a sweet little boy.  He will be asleep by 8pm and I wouldn't be surprised if we were close behind.  I think we are going to try and stay up and watch some movies.
    10. I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year.  Thank you so much for all of your support, encouragement and laughs this year.  This year wouldn't have been the same without all of you great people!

  • 1.  I realized late last night that in my GTKY 3 greatest things from 2013, I forgot all about DOMA going down!  I can't believe it.  That's definitely up there.  Also, MN passing marriage equality.  So awesome, and during my maternity leave so Gabe and I were able to be at the capital for it!  :)

    2. Gabe was up 3 times last night.  Now I know that's better than 5 or 6, but still.  And he's clearly hungry because when I pick him up and start to nurse him, he practically bites my nipple off!  What gives?  When will THIS lovely phase end?

    3. 9 month check-up today.  How on earth has it been 9 months already?  How on earth has it only been 9 months?  Having a baby sure messes with your concept of time.

    4. I think parents (of really little ones) who want a babysitter for New Year's Eve are NUTS!  I would happily stay home with my little family and watch the ball drop in peace on my own TV set.  What I DO want, is a babysitter for tomorrow morning at 6am!  Am I right people?  Lacking that, I'll be lucky if I see 10pm tonight.

    5. I read about a gadget called the Hulabye, and another called the Hug N Hold.  They are to help keep your LO from rolling all over the place during diaper changes.  I'm wondering if any of you out there have tried these contraptions?  They're kind of spendy ($35 and up) for a gimmick, but I'm about at my wits end trying to change Gabe as he squirms endlessly, and there's always the chance of flying poo.

    6. The cold is getting to me.  I know we're just at the beginning of winter, but really? -10 this morning?  C'mon Minnesota.

    7. I got absolutely nothing done at work yesterday.  Today doesn't look much better.

    8. Tried to make an appointment with a Pediatric ENT yesterday.  Booked out until February.  Ugh.

    9. Gabe is waving up a storm.  He almost does it at the right times too.  The day he looks at me and waves goodbye when I leave him at daycare, I will surely cry.

    10. There is not enough coffee in the world today ...

  • 1. As I posted about yesterday in my pregnancy check-in, we came home from Christmas at my mom's house in Boston to no heat at our house. Our furnace needed a new part, and we were without heat from Friday through last night trying to get the part. The majority of the day yesterday was spent with me on the phone fighting with various people trying to get the part b/c the heating company called yesterday morning and said they wouldn't be able to get the part until Friday. Well, I totally lost it, and I am not proud of this but I became the hysterical pregnant lady by the end of the day. Finally at 3:30pm the owner of the heating company came to my house himself and was able to fix the furnace with a different part. I have never been so happy to be warm and sleep in my own bed (we were sleeping in the family room in front of the fireplace while the heat was out).

    2. Honestly, I know it all worked out and our heat was repaired, but I am still really annoyed about the whole experience and needed to vent about it. The fix seemed to take 20 mins once the owner of the company finally came out here. I just don't know why it had to be so hard. I had to spend the entire day on the phone turning myself inside out to get someone to actually listen to me and treat this like an emergency. Our low temp was 24 last night, and Friday's high temp is only supposed to be 18. I told them my pipes were going to freeze, I told them I was pregnant, I told them I had already been in a house without heat for 3 days, I offered to pay extra to overnight the special part, I even offered to drive to the supplier's warehouse myself to pick up the part... it took me hours on the phone to get someone to take this seriously. Ok, I am done venting now about this ridiculousness. Sorry.

    3. So, since Saturday night, I have been getting violently ill from about 7pm-10pm every night. Then once I am done vomiting, I feel fine. I don't get it. I hadn't felt nauseous or had morning sickness in about a month, and now all of a sudden I am getting sick every night. Last night was night #3. I know everyone is different, but I really hope that this is not going to be a theme for the second trimester for me...

    4. OK, something positive (seriously, I need to snap out of it - I am so sorry for being such a downer right now!) ... 18 weeks today! Almost 1/2 way there! :)

    5. My wife and I decided to stay home tonight for NYE. I don't know if we are going to do anything or just go to bed HAHA. We have toyed with the idea of cooking a whole bunch of appetizers for ourselves, watching a movie and then watching the ball drop. I think it will depend on whether or not tonight is night #4 of getting sick for me...

    6. I am pretty happy to be saying goodbye to 2013. This has been a really challenging year for me. Of course we were so lucky and blessed to get pregnant this year, and at times I feel like that should be enough to make the whole year amazing, but I have to be honest, this was still a really difficult year. Emotionally, financially, physically... with family losses and illnesses, with unexpected homeowner and car woes, with the stress of being on fertility meds for 6 months doing IUIs and then going through IVF, with paying for IVF... I am a firm believer in living with no regrets and accepting that everything happens for a reason and owning that as our journey... with that being said, I am ready for things to hopefully be a little bit easier and filled with a bit more positivity. I am going to try to make that my focus for 2014.

    7. I discovered vanilla chai while I was at my mom's for Christmas. I haven't had any caffeinated beverages in almost a year since starting TTC, and I used to be totally obsessed with coffee, but now it is mostly totally not appealing to me. Well, I decided to splurge and have a small vanilla chai when I was out shopping with my sister and it was SO good. I know it has a small amount of caffeine in it, but my dr says 200-300mg a day is fine. One small chai probably does not have half that, so I think it is OK to have one a couple times a week. I think this will be my new treat!

    8. Well, funny story, I am suddenly feeling nauseous... oh man...

    9. My wife and I were supposed to go out and run errands and get hair cuts today, but I just looked over to where she was curled up on the couch watching TV, and I believe that she is snoring. Ha! Perhaps we will be getting a later start than planned...

    10. Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone has a great and healthy/safe New Year's Eve/Day, and wishing everyone a positive, healthy and happy 2014! :)

Right before I read your TTT I was on pinterest looking for easy snacks to make tonight.  I had the exact same thought to make some fun snacks, go rent a movie and then watch the ball drop.  So far I have a grocery list to make homemade mozzarella sticks, mini taco bowls and white trash chex mix.  I am sure I will be toasting the new year with cranberry ginger ale :-)

Happy New Year to you too!!

  • @StacyLH24 - Haha! I never hear the term Lake Effect Snow anymore! I grew up in Erie, PA, and we were about 7 miles off the lake = mega snow belt. Drive safe!

@trisholio - Congrats on 5w! In terms of telling people - we did last time and this time. Our inner circle at least. When we lost our baby, one of J's friends showed up with flowers and champagne and said "let's celebrate your little boy's life!" - and we had an impromptu funeral at our dining room table. It was perfect. I don't know how we'd have gotten through it without the support of people who our baby was real to, too. Now a facebook announcement? We waited til 13w last time - this time we're thinking more like 24w.

@JGY - So nice to have you back! Congrats on 9 months. I love your mom wisdom!

@KH826 - Ug. I just want to give you a hug. I hope the pukies go away soon. No fair! Second tri should be pure joy.
    --

    1. Well, our Christmas tree was dead before Christmas, prompting me to take it down earlier this week. Kinda nice to have our house back to normal - and it always feels so big once the tree is gone!

    2. I slept through the night for the first time since our Dec. 5th BFP! Between anxiety and peeing, it's been hopeless. I did wake up hourly from 3 a.m. on, but only for a few seconds. J, however, is sleeping like crap - I know when I wake up to a slew of 3 a.m. timestamped emails from her with links to articles she read while not sleeping. What did insomniacs do before having their cell phone ba-ba to play with?

    3. Tomorrow I'm making pork and sauerkraut (my tradition) and black-eyed peas and collards (J's tradition) for good luck. Please be lucky, 2014!

    4. @KH826 - I'm surprisingly not interested in coffee either and that is WEIRD! I find my pregnancy tea way more satisfying. No doubt better for me too. My prenatal yoga teacher references it a lot for helping with leg cramps, uterine strength, etc. mostly I just think it's warm and kinda tasty.

    5. Speaking of, I've been going to prenatal yoga 2-3x/week since BFP. I found a new studio 4 minutes away and it's very baby focused! They have post-natal/bring baby yoga classes too which I will be so happy to do. I do get a little bummed that the nice people I'm meeting are far ahead of me and by the time I'm at 40w I won't know anyone, but it's still nice having the little 'check in' circle and feeling some community. Plus all the squatting and lunging can't hurt.

    6. Weirdly I've been craving *not meat* this pregnancy. Last go-around I would siphon meat off J's plate once I finished mine! Last night I made a favorite dish from when I was vegetarian (10 years in my 20s/30s). It's actually vegan - "Curry Potato Chick-Pea Tomato Stew" - all that plus a massive load of spinach mixed in. So good! I get worried about protein though so I'm eating 1 egg a day and still some meat (we don't do soy), I'm not grossed out by meat, just not wanting it.

    7. I had to work yesterday and was SO tired by the end of the day. I'm not looking forward to being back at it Thursday but I guess it helps to pass time....

    8. Ohhhh, I watched MTV's Generation Cryo in its entirety this week. It was so cool, and so interesting. Makes me for sure want to do sibling registry as the kids *really* bonded with each other, esp. since we're likely one & done. Also, seemed the kids without a father (the main girl with lesbian parents, and the twins with a single mom by choice) had a lot more interest and less emotional strife around finding the donor. I am 100% ok and even hope my kid can find his/her donors, esp. since they'll have no bio connection to us. I loved how supportive the lesbian moms were of her daughter finding the donor.

    9. It's been dreary Seattle winter weather lately. Not to cold or rainy, just kinda gray. Not a complaint, just an observation.

    10. I am going to get all the sugar out of this house tomorrow! I need to break the addiction after the holidays - way too many cookies!

Happy New Year everyone! I'm so glad you're all part of my life!! xxoo

  • 1. I am using the rubber band trick to keep my jeans closed today. Total lifesaver.

    2. I also tried on some maternity clothes today that a friend handed down to me. Thought they might be too small because she wears a Medium and I am wearing a Large these days...but fortunately they are mostly Larges and fit me! It seems early but I honestly think it is not long before I am going to start needing to switch over. And WHOA they make me look pregnant.

    3. Got some good leads on local home daycares yesterday. Now to call, visit, decide...I think I need a spreadsheet.

    4. @2MamazinSeattle made me take a baby heart rate gender predictor...it said girl. I know it's an old wive's tale but I would be thrilled if it were true in this case!

    5. Especially since my wife's cousin just had a baby and used our boy name. I'll still use it if we have a boy, but it was still kind of a bummer. Fortunately we're not that close to her.

    6. We're getting out of work 2 hours early today. Wheeeee!

    7. I came "out" as pregnant to a high school friend yesterday in order to ask her for daycare advice. She has a 3m old and it's been fun thinking about the fact that our kids will be the same year in school (we live in the same town, so that means same middle/high school which is when we met).

    8. Why do they make burritos so darn big?

    9. Looking forward to a quiet NYE with my wife and going to bed by 10pm. Tomorrow we are going to a movie marathon brunch at friend's house.

    10. So glad to leave 2013 behind. Depression diagnosis, cancelled cycle, second miscarriage, putting our cat down and breaking my foot: now there's a good year. I have hope for 2014.

  • Let me see if I can do this real quick -

    1. @2MamazinSeattle - I'm sure that more people close to your due date will start creeping into your yoga class (I didn't start until second tri).  I loved the check-in circle too!  It was like an in-person Monday check-in. :)

    2. @ball.and.chain - glad you were gifted some maternity clothes that fit!  Besides a few pair of jeans, I had to buy all mine.  I have several friends that I expect to get pregnant this year (fingers crossed) and I will be happy to loan them out.  It's a shame to spend so much money on clothes that have such a limited use.

    3. @2Mamaz - I realized the same thing about the kids in Generation Cryo.  The ones that grew up with a father had the most conflict.  Totally makes sense to me.  I haven't yet registered with the registry - need to sit down with Z and do that soon.

    4. @JGY - in regards to your #4 - I had a friend text me a couple of days ago and ask if we had NYE plans.  Huh?  I'm not sure what she thought Z and I had planned with our newborn in tow. :)

    5. Ash slept 5 hours straight last night!  At first I was worried (been dealing with the weight gain issue), but since he is gaining well for now, LC told me that it was fine to let him sleep.

    6. Z and I have been in the routine to just go to sleep after the last feeding of the day (usually around 8pm) since we know we'll be up in a few hours.  Well, Z isn't always up, but she is at least once during the night.  I'm off track - point is, I'm not sure if we'll be up at midnight or not.  Depends on when LO is ready to eat. Okay with me - whether I'm awake or not, I'll be with my loves as the new year begins.

    7. Being home so much makes me realize just how much the cats and dogs sleep during the day.  What a life.

    8. Z has returned almost everything I bought her for Christmas that she didn't specifically pick out. I don't know if I'm a bad gift-giver or she's just that picky.  Whether it's rational or not, it hurts my feelings a bit. :(

    9. I hope i can find the time today to make my black beans and collards recipe!  It's not that difficult, but it took me about 2 hours to make a batch of lactation cookies - kept having to stop and console or nurse or change diaper.

    10.  Happy New Years, everyone!  I hope this year brings much health and happiness to everyone.  And lots of babies!

  • 1. The TTC check in was so boring this week now that we had so many awesome BFP's! Not complaining, though! I'm thrilled for everyone.

    2. DW and I are both sick with a cold. Neither of us has been sick in about a year, so this is a real bummer for us. We can thank our nieces and nephews for this. Here's hoping it stays a cold and nothing more.

    3. DW is on duty today, so I picked up a few groceries, some hair dye and plan on being in the whole night. In the past I have gone to her station at midnight, but this year she is at the busiest station in her township, so it would likely be a waste of an hour drive to get there and see they are not there. I'm cooking a homemade roast stew and making kale chips, exciting, I know!

    4. My only problem with kale chips is that I don't seem to ever make enough. They are so good!

    5. I'm using boxed hair dye for the first time in years, but we are really trying to save. Here's hoping I don't mess it up.

    6. I'm totally bummed out that the winter classic alumni game is not on regular tv. Thankfully DW and I can watch the actual winter classic tomorrow on NBC. We will be heading to my parent's house tomorrow afternoon for my Mom's bday and the Rose Bowl.

    7. My bday was Sunday and I'm still pretty bummed out that my family was so uninterested. While they called to say happy birthday, DW invited them to come out with the hockey team and they declined. It's sad to be an afterthought.

    8. I did get to spend the evening on my bday with the hockey team, which was awesome. They are the most supportive and most wonderful women you could surround yourself with!

    9. I'm looking forward to the new year!

    10. Happy new year everyone!

TTC our first. Married to, and madly in love with, my beautiful wife. Living with our fur baby and enjoying 19 nieces and nephews.

  • 1)  1st midwife visit is Jan. 8th and it can't come soon enough - I need to hear a heartbeat and get medical confirmation of this pregnancy!  There is no indication that anything is wrong, but still...

    2)  Did my weight/waist today.  At 9 weeks (okay 8 weeks 6 days) I am down 3.5 pounds and up about 2.5" in my waist.  Since I am both bloated and sick this is not surprising.

    3)  Started getting sick on X-Mas day.  Since I was out of state visiting family over the weekend I didn't get to the doctor until today.  Verdict is some generic upper respiratory crud plus an ear infection.  Joy.  DW is being the medication Nazi and questioning me on my choices (I have been taking children's Tylenol and a bit of Nyquil at night to keep the fever down and be able to sleep/breathe), but as I told her I think running a high fever is probably worse for the fetus than taking some relatively safe OTCs.  Plus bonding with my neti pot.

    4)  When I came home from my trip my wife had finished putting our bathroom and my library together.  It was very sweet.  I am also informed that everything is out of the old house and it is completely clean, so all that's left is to get the keys back to my landlord, which will happen later this week.

    5)  I may or may not have "accidentally" bought 4 half gallons of ice cream at the store today.  This is what happens when a hungry pregnant lady goes to the store unaccompanied.

    6)  I hate Wal-Mart's pharmacy.

    7)  I have to see clients on Wednesday and Thursday.  I do not want to see clients on Wednesday and Thursday, but I need the money.

    8)  Lunch today was boxed mac n' cheese and chocolate ice cream.  Clearly I am pregnant since obviously that combination is absolutely disgusting.

    9)  Have I mentioned I hate being sick?

    10)  I need a nap.
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

Regular Tylenol is considered fine during pregnancy (aspirin and ibuprofen are not).  Nyquil is technically on the "no" list but I think it's really just because of the alcohol, and I don't think the alcohol content is THAT high.  Still, worth checking with doctor/midwife.  If you're having trouble sleeping, Unisom is fine, though it won't help with the cold.

  • @kayboydbowman another thought is if you have an infection you may need antibiotics. I suffered for nearly a month last year with a massive ear infection b/c my midwife said to wait it out. Once I couldn't hear anymore, I got totally safe antibiotics and was better in 3 days. Along the way I took some questionable OTCs that I could've totally avoided by going in sooner. Sigh. Live and learn. Hope you feel better!

  • Yeah, I went to the doctor today and have generic upper respiratory crud plus an ear infection.  So now I have an antibiotic and official permission to take Tylenol and Benadryl as needed. :)

  • 1. The TTC check in was so boring this week now that we had so many awesome BFP's! Not complaining, though! I'm thrilled for everyone.

I saw the TTC check in was a little slow this week.  Sorry for that :-(  People will graduate soon and newbies will join all the time.

Happy belated birthday!  I know it sucks when your family doesn't seem to care.  I am glad you had people in your life to make you feel special :-)

  • 1. I started TTT several times yesterday but never got very far - FX I finish this time.

    2. Happy New Year everyone :-)

    3. We stayed up super late (or early) we had another couple over to watch movies and eat food - it was really fun and low key. They left around 1:30 and I was up for quite a while after that - Unheard of!!

    4. I hurt my back carrying Kaden and a few bags up several flights of stairs to a friends house a couple of nights ago :-( I can barely bend or twist without it seizing up painfully. I finally relented and bought a heating pad and some arnica gel today. I just lay down in bed and it's heaven. I should have listened to EV from the start.

    5. I love being on break from school with EV, we've had so much fun catching up with friends and having family time. Even a few naps. ;-)

    6. We introduced Kaden to the potty last night and he went!! Woohoo!! Since then he's 4 for 4. He loves his potty and clapping and the raisins he gets as a treat. I hope we can keep this up :-)

    7. I had an epiphany today and it was just what I needed.

    8. I bought donuts this morning from my favorite shop - they are THE best donuts I've ever had. Anyway 1.5 have disappeared. I'm glad weight loss specifically wasn't my NY resolution.

    9. Watching Kaden cuddle with his aunties last night and share some homemade turkey pot pie just melted my heart. He's such a love & has so many great people in his life - lucky kid.

    10. Happy New Year - I hope 2014 is filled with joy for all of you amazing folks & your families!!!
