How many ounces?

How many ounces of breast milk or formula are your little ones drinking a day now? My little tank of a baby(24 pounds) has dropped down to (3) 6 ounce bottles a day. He eats all 3 meals with snacks in between and water like it was going out of style. He probably drinks 15 ounces of water a day. He has a 5 ounce sippy that he loves and I know we refill it at least 3 times a day.

I am just wondering where we stand in comparison.

Re: How many ounces?

  • My son is starting to cut himself down. He drinks a sippy cup of water with each meal. but we were ay 4 8 oz bottles a day, now it more like 1 full 8 oz and 2 maybe 6 oz bottles. He is a fabulous eater though, hasn't met a food he doesn't want to devour lol

  • He drinks 4 ounce bottles during the day (6 bottles a day) and will maybe take back 6 ounces at his MOTN feeding. His water intake is not too exceptional yet. I think maybe I should plant a sippy for him with water on the coffee table so he knows he can drink whenever he wants. We offer him water at the end of a meal, but he doesn't drink that much.

  • DD drinks 4 bottles a day, but they vary from 4-6 oz. Usually 5-6 oz in the morning, 4 oz for each of her middle-of-the-day bottles, and 5 oz before bed. So it's about 18-19 oz a day. She does eat 3 meals a day but doesn't drink much water at all. I'm going to start keeping her sippy cup out/offering it at different times rather than just giving it to her at meals. Hopefully that will help.

  • From 4 month to 9 months DS ate 40 ounces a day of formula - 5 8 ounce bottles. When we added lunch he dropped one. So even though has 3 meals and 1-2 snacks a day, he still has 32 ounces of formula. @MonicaMerkel he sounds very similar to your DS!

  • My big guy drinks 28oz a day (broken down into 2x 10 and 1x 8). My little guy drinks 24oz a day (broken down into 3x 8). They both eat meals at least 3x a day and have snacks.

  • DD is offered 5  5 oz bottles a day which would be 25 oz if she drank it all but lately she doesn't want it all and gets probably 15-20 oz a day. She does however eat 3 good meals (only purees right now though) a day so I'm not too concerned with it. She is also small (14lbs at 9 mths) so I try to encourage her to drink/ eat when I can. Also, she does not get water yet.....should she be drinking water??

  • My daughter is getting about 4 6oz bottles a day. We are working really hard at doing three meals a day as well with snacks. I offer her water throughout the day in her straw sippy cup. She is starting to seem less interested in drinking her bottle before bed.

  • My baby nurses in the morning, gets about 10 ounces of BM during the day (over 3 bottles), and nurses twice before bed.  She also eats three meals of solids and gets some WCM (maybe 1-2 ounces/day).

I don't think it is necessary as long as they are getting BM or Formula. My little guy has been interested in our cups of water since 4 months even though he didn't get much at the time, he now is a pro of drinking from a sippy, a water bottle, a regular cup, or even a straw. The colder the water, the better for him. He will drink water until he floats away!

  • He nurses at wake up and bed time, and gets 2 6oz bottles while at daycare.  He's pretty much on 3 solid meals/2 snacks at this point with sippy of water offered each time.

  • DS gets around 30 oz of formula a day. He gets three meals and usually one snack. He has shown little to no interest in any other liquid but formula, which has been a little discouraging.  He also has not found a sippy cup he likes and will drink out of consistently. Next week we are going to start cutting out 2 oz. of formula from his bottles and switching with WCM, in the hopes that in four weeks when he turns one, it will be mostly WCM.  I may give him a bedtime bottle of toddler formula if it's really a struggle. Formula is his only source of fluids right now, and I am a little anxious about when it's time to wean fully that he won't drink anything.

  • DD nurses before I leave for work, gets 2-five ounce bottles of BM while I'm at work, nurses twice in the evening and twice overnight. She eats three meals a day.
Proud Momma to two beautiful children!!!

  • H nurses when we wakes up, before his morning nap, before his afternoon nap, and then at bedtime. Otherwise, he eats three meals. He's also huge-- about 24 pounds.

  • DS drinks about 40 oz a day, his bottles range from 4-8 oz. he also has two solid meals a day. I keep a sippy of water out for him all day, and he will take a swig every time he sees it, but he doesn't probably drink more than 3 oz a day. He also steals his sister's milk sippy all the time, so who knows how much of that he gets. He is a chubby little piggy. He follows me all day whining for " my ba boo."
  • Between 18 and 24 oz per day plus three very solid meals and a snack. She's 21lbs.

  • My daughter drinks 4 6 oz bottles during the day when I am home with her. That is including 3 meals and 1 snack. I only give her a few sips of water after she eats her meals and/or snack. During the work week an extra 4 oz gets added to that. I give her that in the mornings when we wake up so she's not starving when I take her to daycare (my babysitter prefers to feed the kids when they arrive and get settled). My daughter eats a lot but she is somewhat tiny. She is 10 months now but at her 9 month appt she was 18 lbs 15 oz. Lol...That girl never stops moving when she is awake.
