Re: ikea cribs

  • Love. Affordable and sturdy. Dd wasn't a chewer but my niece chewed all over her very expensive crib thus making the conversion to full size bed not very desirable.

  • Love. Paid $120 and still love over two years later. About to convert it to a toddler bed and will for sure buy from Ikea for #2.

Ikea cribs also get great ratings from Baby Bargains. Not that it means everything, but helpful none-the-less.

  • I don't personally have one but I love them! I know several people who have one (including MIL) and everyone raves about them.

  • Follow-up question for those that already own the cribs: Do you have Ikea mattresses or do other mattresses fit? I'd like to do a non-Ikea mattress and was wondering what your experience has been!

I did not buy an Ikea mattress. They were not firm enough for me. Many girls here recommend the Sealy SoyBean Core Foam mattress. That's what I have and it fits perfectly in my Ikea crib. Your luck, the mattress on Amazon was $85 yesterday. I paid $104 in December 2010.

Even better is that right now, Amazon is running their Baby Nursery Event.  So if you spend $250 on qualifying items (one of which is the Sealy SoyBean Mattress), you'll get a $50 credit for future purchases ;-)

  • great! thanks for all the input.

i'm trying to rationalize to DH why an ikea bed would make sense for us but he's been traumatized by our prior experiences with ikea for living and bedroom furniture (the falling apart). i'm trying to suggest to him that we'd only use it for a few years after toddler and graduate to regular so it would be ok.

    thanks again!

  • We have loved our two Gullivers. Our mattresses are from BRU. The first one we bought was too small and we returned it. Turns out the mattresses varied by a couple inches when I brought a tape measure with me the second time.
  • Love our ikea crib.  It's still going strong and awaiting baby #3 in a few weeks. We do have the matching ikea teething guards on the long sides of the crib. We have used both ikea and non-ikea mattresses with no issues.

I wanted an Ikea, but then they discontinued the one I wanted. I tried everything to get it and couldn't so we ended up with a Baby Mod Modena, it looked really similar and actually a but nicer than the Ikea. It was actually like $189 when we got it, but here is a link (In case you wanted an alternative)
