Got to thinking after the push present thread of another tradition around here in the deep South... wreaths on hospital doors. Or any other kind of decoration announcing "It's a..." or the baby's name or whatever. The hospitals even have hooks on the doors here just for them. Do they do that where you live? Would you like it?
I was kind of new to town and no girlfriends so DH went to the gift shop when he saw the other doors and got a little blue teddy bear with a dry erase board on it where we wrote DS's name and birthdate on it and we hung it on the door. It was thoughtful.
Re: Hospital Doors
I'm more of a fan of knitting, so I'd probably be likely to knit something- though I'm not sure how a warm a july baby is going to want to be!! I guess knitting a wreath would be a good compromise and certainly faster!
Many people don't even use the storks or anything. In my opinion it says, "come kidnap my newborn." But I'm weird like that.

My bestie made this sign for the door when DS was born and it now hangs in his room. She is waiting with baited breath to make one for this baby. She is my crafty friend!
I am also from North Alabama. It's nice to see Alabama ladies on here. :-)
My mother made a wreath for my hospital door. I thought it was cute. I don't know that I will go through the trouble to do this myself but I thought it was a nice gesture on her part.

I doubt I would have done it if I wouldn't have been on bed rest. I definitely think they are cute though. My mother had actually planned to make one, but I begged her to let me do it instead since I was so bored!
We didn't have anything outside of our house to say "come kidnap our newborn" as pp's have said. This just stayed on the hospital door and then in DS's room.
