Babies: 3 - 6 Months

teething? too soon?

okay. so my son is only 10 weeks old, but i am hoping some of you ladies could shed some light. i was under the impression that we shouldn't expect any teething for a couple more months, but out of nowhere, 2 days ago the little guy started showing some signs. drooling like crazy and gnawing on his hands constantly. we even broke out one of the teething rings and he is loving it. he has woken up a couple extra times to nurse during the last 2 nights and during the day it seems difficult for him to fall asleep, even when he is very tired. these all sound like telltale teething signs. did any of your little ones start sprouting teeth before 3 months, or do you have any idea what else these sudden changes could mean?

Re: teething? too soon?

  • They start to become more aware of their hands and like to put things in their mouth. That being said, LO is 16 weeks and has been teething for several weeks now and he has 2 teeth almost through. It's not impossible. But still can take time too. It could also be increased awareness.

  • Nothing with children is impossible my son who is now 8 years old was born with 4 teeth I never had any issues with him teething. On the other hand my daughter who is 18 weeks now has about 3 or 4 teeth coming through. Her hands are constantly in her mouth I change her clothes about once an hour bc of the drool her whole shirt will be all wet. if she is not eating her hands she is trying to bit me my hands, arm, or my shoulders. so anything is possible.
  • My LO has been drooling like crazy, and has been a hand sucker for about the last month, but no signs of teeth yet.

  • Babies can be born with teeth so it can happen at ant time! Try amber on your lo and if you need a good teether check out teething mittens
  • I have 3 kids and they've all gotten their first teeth at different times.  My girlfriends last kid had 6 teeth by 3 1/2 months!

  • Sounds like a late wonder week. That is about the age they discover that their hands belong to them and their actions are deliberate instead of reflex. My lo has been doing the same since around 8 weeks and no sign of teeth. He is 13 weeks.

  • thanks for all the input. after a couple of days, i'm starting to think it is simply increased awareness, like a couple of you said. i can't see or feel any teeth yet, and he doesn't seem to be uncomfortable. he has started doing other new things with his hands besides sucking on them, lots of reaching and grabbing for things and batting at the stuffed toys that dangle above his bouncer. it's fun to watch him figure things out :0)

  • My middle child had four teeth by 3.5 months. So, anything is possible.

  • My LO just turned 3 months today and she was acting like your LO since 2 months (chewing her hands and drooling a lot). One week ago we noticed her first tooth popping through.
  • LO had 2 by 12 weeks here
