Hardly any appetite

I'll be 15 weeks tomorrow and I hardly have an appetite. The meals I eat are small and Iget full very fast. I'm trying to eat healthy, but every so often it makes me nauseous or doesnt stay down. I thought I was supposed to get my appetite back in the 2nd tri. =( anyone else feeling this way? Any advice/support?

  • Yes, I am in the same boat! I am a weight loss surgery patient, so this is a permanent thing for me. I try so hard to get in 1500 calories a day and I keep track in MyFitnessPal.

    I would recommend trying a protein shake to at least get in some protein. The chocolate Premier Protein shakes are quite tasty, and they aren't chalky at all. They have 30g of protein. I try to eat 5-6 small meals a day. It's hard sometimes.

  • I'm 17 weeks and have almost no appetite most the time. When I do eat, I get acid reflux. No advice really besides eat when you are even a little hungry. Hope you feel better soon!

  • I'm exactly the same way I'm 15w and 5d. Sorry no advice here but I know how you feel. Can't wait to get my appetite back.
  • Same here, 16 weeks. I have been juicing to make up the missed nutrients. I was doing smoothies, but the fiber was too much for me. My doctor said its still fine, and she wouldn't worry until 20 weeks.
  • 17 weeks tomorrow and no appetite. Sometimes I'll get hungry..like starving..and I take two bites. After that I feel so full. Most food still make me queezy and rarely anything sounds good. I try really hard to eat. At 14 weeks I had lost 10 lbs and my sister says that I look like I'm still losing. I have a dr appointment tomorrow so we will see what their scale says.

  • I'm sorry! It is just plain awful to not have any appetite and feel crappy all the time. I lost 12 pounds and couldn't keep anythig down my doc put me on zofran and it's been amazing!!! Maybe ask your doc about it? Good luck! I'm 18 weeks now and was trying to not take any medicine but I feel 10000x better! Hope this helps! Xoxo
  • I'm still down 5lbs and have no appetite what so ever.  I try to keep fresh fruit salad or a bag of trail mix by desk so I will at least nibble on that out of boredom.

  • Same here. I brought it up to my dr last appt and she said not to worry and as long as I'm getting at least 1200 calories a day the baby will be fine until the third trimester.

    Good to know! Once third tri hits, how many do you need - did she say?

    She said third trimester it needs 300 calories daily. So 1500. She said its like an extra banana with some pb so it doesn't need to be a meal just a largish snack.
  • I am 15 weeks as well and just talked to my doctor about this today. I lost 3 pounds and am having a hard time with the same things you are and he told me it's normal to sometimes lose weight, and to try and smaller meals more frequently. Don't let it get you down.

  • I feel the same way! I am 18.5 weeks and still have to force myself to eat. Over the past week it has gotten worse, I feel like I'm regressing to the 1st trimester again (nauseous, exhausted, headaches). I just want my glow :(
  • I had very, very little appetite from about 6 weeks till 14 weeks, and even now it comes and goes.  Some days I eat like I used to, others (like yesterday) I hardly eat at all.  I'm almost 17 weeks and have lost about 5 lbs total.  To help make sure I get the nutrients I need, I make sure to keep up on my prenatal vitamins, and on days where I don't have much of an appetite, I drink the Ensure-type shakes (not sure if that's the actual brand I have right now, but basically the same thing).  Other than that, just eat when you can. 
  • Almost 18 weeks here and once my second trimester started I lost my appetite. I gained 10 lbs in the first trimester and have now remained basically the same weight for the last 5 weeks. Most times I have to remind myself that I need to eat. I asked my Ob about it and she said its fine because my baby is gaining weight so thats all that matters. I am assuming at some point this will stop and I will be ravenous again so in the mean time I am happy about not putting on too much weight for now. I also get a lot of acid reflux recently when I eat so I just keep tums on me at all times. No advice really just keep going with the flow b/c Im sure there are going to be constant changes throughout.

  • I have done this with every pregnancy. I lose a lot of weight until my last month. Never had a problem at all with my babies. Eat really calorie dense and healthy foods when you can. Peanut butter and celery. A milkshake. Things like that.
  • Thanks for all the replies! I'm glad I'm not the only one.
  • Depends on the day. Some days I can only get one small meal down, others I eat non-stop.
  • Nothing sounds good to me. I get hungry but I would rather be hungry than eat something I find nasty at the moment.
