Anyone induced using cervadil ?

I'm being induced on Thursday if I don't progress any further. They are giving me cervadil for 12 hrs then pitocen. Anyone else have cervadil. I'm hoping it does the job with no pitocen needed. It's a gel that's on a tampon that gets inserted to soften and dialate cervix.

Re: Anyone induced using cervadil ?

  • I did with my first. It didn't work though and i ended up needing pitocin and a c section. Good luck though! A lot of women have success with it.

  • Normally you still need pitocin with cervadil. Your less likely to need it with cytotec. Best of luck to you. Why are they inducing you?

  • I was induced with cervadil, but still needed pitocin.  They gave me the cervadil in the evening and then got the pitocin in the morning.  I was able to deliver vaginally w/o issue. I will say the pitocin caused insane contractions and I needed an epidural. Other than that things were good :). GL!
  • It worked for me with DS1. I was 39w2d and induced because of growth concerns (baby measuring small and fluid levels low). I got the first doze of cervadil around 9pm. 12 hours later the cervix still wasn't softened and they did another doze. Meanwhile LO was doing perfectly so they weren't in too much of a rush. About 9-10 hours later my water broke as I was walking around the hallways and contractions started full force on their own. DS1 was born around 4 hours later.

  • I did cervadil. I got it at 5pm and it was removed at 3 am. It def softened my cervix and made me start to dialate and I had contractions. They let me go for a few hours to see what would happen (nothing really did) so they started the Pitocin at 5 am and by 12:20 pm I delivered :). I was fortunate that it went so easy
  • When I was induced, it was for low amniotic fluid, and I was sent over to L&D from an OB appointment in the afternoon.

I got checked into L&D for the induction around 4 PM, and at 5 PM, the OB on call arrived and inserted the cervadil. I had that in all evening, night, and it was removed at 5 AM and I was checked with an internal when it was removed. My cervix was a little more "favorable," and I had been having regular contractions (like period cramps) all night, but I hadn't dilated any further.

The pitocin drip was started at 7 AM, an internal at 12:30 showed I was at either 3 or 4 cm (can't remember right now), my water broke on it's own around 1:45 PM, and by 3:00, I was fully dilated and ready to push. DS was born at 3:18 PM.

  • I was induced with DD1. I was 3cm dilated when I went in but they opted to give me cervidil anyways. I had cervidil for 12 hours. I was at 5cm after the 12 hours and then I was given pitocin. DD was born just under 6 hours later.

  • Thanks everyone for your story. It always helps knowing someone else has done it. My doctor is inducing 2 days before my due date because she is on call those days and I dont want another doctor. I've only seen 2 of them in the practice and I really want a female. Baby is measure big for my size. They are not sure with my narrow pelvis if he will come down past his forehead :( I dont want a c - setion . But what ever it take for my healthy baby.
  • @mommyber - what will you be when they induce you? Are you currently dilated at all or softening? I would strongly urge you to reconsider if you are not and especially if this is your first baby? Failed inductions leading to c sections are all so common, especially for first time moms. If you are already starting to dilate your cervix will be more favorable and you would be more likely to have a "successful" induction.

    Best of luck to you.
