June 2014 Moms

So I passed out...

Sat morning DH and I slept in a bit, got a breakfast at our favorite diner, then ran a few errands. We stopped at the AT&T store for long overdue phone upgrades. We spent some time talking to the sales guy, and as we're making our final purchase, I started feeling really dizzy and my vision got all fuzzy. I told my husband I didn't feel well and the next thing I knew, I was on the ground looking up at him. As soon as the store manager heard I was pregnant he called 911.

A quick check from the paramedics, four hour hospital trip, EKG, and host of other tests later, and the vague conclusion was that I need to drink more water. And I'm just now getting to post about it bc my silly new phone wouldn't let me bump for the first couple days.

Has this happened to anyone else?!?

  • I've caught the dizziness gene from my grandmother as my mom says. She apparently passed out a few times with each of hers. I have yet to fully pass out - I just get dizzy and have to sit down. I hate that feeling, though. Sorry yours happened in such a public arena. Chug that water...hope this is your only little dizziness incident.

  • Wow! I am so glad you are ok. Thanks for the reminder to stay hydrated - sometimes I am bad about that. I get dizzy in the shower, so much that my husband sits in the bathroom with me every time I take one - just in case.

  • I didn't pass out but today something weird happened. All of a sudden my hearing got clogged my vision wet funny and I needed to lie down. It was a quick 1-2 minute thing but super weird. Glad it wasn't anything further. Drink up!

  • If u feel this coming on try to sit down and get some kind of candy or a drink. That is what helps me always have sestet bottle on hand that helps.
  • I get the nasty dizzies and often have to sit down, especially when I've been standing suddenly after a lot of walking around (like waiting in line at the grocery store, killer!).  It's better if I'm drinking more, but it doesn't completely go away.  It also happens when I get too warm (wearing a coat inside).  I'm sorry you fainted and had to go through all the tests, but better safe than sorry!  At least you know the feeling now so next time you can sit down, put your head between your knees, and drink something.

  • Yes. Mine has happened way before I got pregnant. Make sure you eat, drink plenty, and if you ever feel like that again just sit down anywhere. Even the floor. It will help, plus you won't be falling if your sitting! Sorry this happened and hope you get it under control

  • I would recommend lying on the floor if you feel faint. Also, try to get your feet up above heart level; my doc said one cause of feeling faint is blood pooling in your feet - and this will help it flow back to your brain.

  • Something else to consider is what you had for breakfast. I sometimes have issues if I have a sugary breakfast and oj. Doc said I was making my sugar levels spike, which could cause dizziness. Then silly me I thought the opposite, that my sugar was low, and would drink more juice. I was so dizzy some days that I felt like I was going to pass out when laying down. Two days of this stupid dizzy, juice cycle and went to doc and I felt like an idiot when he told me to lay off the oj. Stopped drinking oj and feeling much better.

  • This has happened to me twice in the past two weeks - thankfully my DH caught me so it avoided the fall and hospital. Once it was in the Verizon store, so maybe we just aren't good with cell phones! Anyway, I get really hot, feel a little overwhelmed, then my vision gets hazy, and boom. I brought it up to the ob/gyn and she told me to drink more water and snack regularly - my concern is that I drink about 10 glasses of water a day and have definitely done my fair share of snacking based on my current weight gain. I'm glad you're alright and hope you can avoid that feeling again.
