Still not showing :(

Hey ladies! I am 17w4days and still not noticeably showing. I am about 10 pounds heavier than I was when I conceived- I'm 5'6" and started out around 130 pounds. There's just a tiny bump that looks kind of like a fat roll to everybody but me. I can easily still wear regular clothes. I am panicking. Will I ever show? This is my first pregnancy ever but really? Am I going to go to my anatomy scan not showing? My self esteem has never been lower :(

  • It's crazy how different everyone's bodies are when it comes to showing and when. I'm a FTM and feel like I'm on the other side of the fence and showing way too early . . . I'm petrified people are going to ask when I'm due and if I say June, I don't want to start getting "wow must be a big baby" or what not. I don't know why I'm so self conscious about it - I've always had body issues, though. I'm also really short, am high waisted, and there's really no where for things to go so once my uterus moved up, it was impossible to hold in my belly!
  • My last appt was at 13 weeks and everything was fine. I go back to the doctor this week and the first thing I will ask is if I am normal. Just looking for some support from other ladies who may have been in my shoes.
  • @alicatand completely agree! I've never had body issues before now. Every time I see someones disappointed face when they realize I haven't "popped" since they last saw me I am crushed. I of course want a healthy baby but it's scary to not feel like you aren't growing correctly! I have wide hips and a very long torso so I guess I started out with lots of room

This is me exactly!! Short with a short torso so I couldn't hide it anymore at 13 weeks... Apparently people at work were chattering about it a week or two prior to my announcement. Seems there's nowhere to grow but up and out with my stature. Everyone's body is just so different. I wouldn't worry at all if reports from the doc are A-okay!
  • If it's any consolation, I am 15w2d and only "show" when I am lying down flat.

  • I popped about 5 days ago. I'm 5'0, so I kind of expected it to happen early - but that early. I was really hoping to last until at least 18 weeks with my first one (I was only about 15 1/2 weeks when it did). You're lucky. Wear those jeans and wear them proud. Then one day BAM you will no longer be able to button them. I wore the jeans one day and the next morning I went to put them back and no such luck. Not even close.

I'm 14+3 days and I'm not showing either. I'm short 5'3. I have bloat. My tummy has extra fat though, but It is much more firm now. I can't suck it in and It looks like I actually have a bump. I think It's just my bloat and extra fats though. Everything I wear makes me look like I'm actually pregnant with my volleyball tummy. LOL. I can't fit my jeans or shorts. I'm about to buy some maternity clothes! MAXI DRESSES ARE MY BESTFRIEND.

  • I am 15 weeks and getting so big that I am uncomfortable all the time. I'm 4'10" and a pretty petite 98 lbs (up 5 since conception) and am already getting the "oh you're gonna be in trouble" looks from people. It's difficult not being able to feel movement but looking like I should. Hoping to start feeling more connected once I can feel it, as opposed to just uncomfortable and without things to wear since no one makes maternity jeans for the size equivalent of a preggo 12 year old. Opposite end of the spectrum isn't always peachy either.

I totally understand the worry and the panic - it seems to go hand in hand with much of pregnancy.  I'm just not sure why you are THIS worried, that you are worried that you won't ever show.  First - as long as the baby is growing, it doesn't matter that you are showing.  Try to keep that in mind.  But at some point, it will be obvious that there is a baby, even if you end up being bigger/smaller/just right.

I started out bigger, so I also get the self esteem thing, but I guess its' hard for me to understand.  I ended up in mat clothes earlier than I would have liked - especially since I felt like I was pretty small with DD the entire time.  But seriously, you have to stop worrying.  You have an appointment in a week - if the baby seems to be doing just fine, then that is your cue to not freak out anymore.

  • With DS I hardly looked pregnant for most of it- my mom was thrilled when at my shower (30ish weeks) I had a small bump.
Towards the end my dr sent me for a lot of u/s because I wasn't very big/growing very much. Drs know what is normal and safe and if they are concerned will do additional tests. If they aren't worried it is very likely that you don't need to be either.
  • I'm 5'1 and have a short torso and still didn't really show until 24 weeks with my first. You are normal, no need for alarm.

You'll show eventually. With DD I was wearing my regular clothes into my 3rd tri. For my a/s I wore a mini skirt from Forever 21 that I'd had since high school. Lol. I didn't start showing (where strangers could notice) until 30 weeks. DD turned out perfectly fine, she was just hiding out for a long time.
Even now at 17 weeks with baby #2 I'm barely showing.

  • I'm a FTM at 16 weeks and not really showing. I have a slight ridge above my pelvis, but that's nothing compared to my little fat/pushed-up-intestines plump. I went in to work out in my tight yoga pants and hoodie, and one of the coaches said "Oh, look at the little bump!" I had to say, "Yeah, that's not really baby!" I know I'll have a nice bump eventually, but I'm more looking forward to feeling some movement.

Try not to stress about it!

  • 4th baby (5th pregnancy) and I'm 16 weeks and not showing. It's typical for me, I have a long torso. I always catch up in the end;)

  • Here I am hoping I can stay in my regular clothes for as long as possible! So funny how people react so differently to things.

  • This was five months with my first. I am five foot five and started at 110 with that pregnancy.

Most people just thought I was fat. My belly popped at 6 months though! It will come! Just enjoy the lack of stretch marks while you can.
  • I'll be 15 weeks Friday and am not showing at all. I've gained 8-10 lbs (depending on when I weigh!) and I just look like I fell off the wagon; I was dieting and exercising hard before I got pregnant. I understand the worry! When I lie flat on my back it looks like I'm not pregnant at all, and that freaks me out even though baby is supposedly just fine in there. I talked to my  mom about it and she was like, well, you're six feet tall, there's a lot of room in there for that baby to hang out. She's right, but I still want to see the bump -- somehow I think I will feel more reassured when I do. <3 It will be ok!

  • I can kind of relate to this.  For me it's more like, "I wish I looked pregnant instead of fat!"  You and I are about the same size.  Be patient, we'll get there!

Have you tried wearing maternity pants?  I had to resort to bella bands and maternity pants a little early, because my stomach was so sensitive the slightest pressure of a too-tight waistband was pretty painful.  I *could* button my jeans, but it was so damn uncomfortable.

Anyway, the maternity pants, I find, make me look more like I have a baby bump... they're the right shape and hit the right places so I look more rounded, and less flabby like I would if my belly were getting squeezed in the middle by regular jeans.  I got a pair of the full-waistband jeans from the Gap (size WAY down though) and immediately people were saying, "Oh, there's your belly!"

I know you probably don't totally mean it when you say, "Will I ever show?"  We will!  Just try to be patient :).
  • (I'm 16w today, by the way.)
  • I understand you're frustration! With my first pregnancy, I didn't start showing until about midway to the late part of my 2nd trimester. No worries. Hope all is well with you and baby!
