New Year's Eve...

I was talking to DH today about what we are going to do for new years eve. We started talking about what we did last year and what was going on in our lives at the time. We spent last year at home in sweats, I was looking like the girl from Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory...you know, the one who turned into a blueberry!!! I remember just being so uncomfortable and trying to imagine what we would be doing this year with our LO. I feel like our family has been so blessed over the past 365 days and Im so very grateful!

Do you ladies remember what you were doing last NYE and the things that you imagined for the year to come?

*** This is what we are doing this year: Jammie time with the LO!!!

Re: New Year's Eve...

  • I stayed at home last year with my fiancé drinking sparkling apple cider. I think we watched a movie or something. This year I'm preggers again, so probably something mellow again!

  • Last year I had an "I'm not pregnant" night and had a glass of champagne and some sushi. This year hubs and I are going to a party at another couple's house. We'll probably leave at 10 but it will be fun to dress up and have a night out!

  • We are going out in my husband's hometown. It's nothing fancy, but we haven't had a night out in aaaages so it might as well be a night at the Ritz to me haha. More so than going out, I am excited to sleep in the next morning because I know MIL will be falling all over herself to get time alone with DS. Win win!  Last year I honestly have no recollection of what I did. I must have been home, I was 9 month pregnant. I think we just watched the ball drop in our jammies. But not this year!!!

I'm obviously thankful for my babies but...stuff like this makes me jealous of non twin mommas. My MIL could easily watch one baby for the night so we could go out, but two infants? Not so much :( I'm tired of feeling like no one can handle/babysit them.
  • Last year we had literally just moved that day to a new apartment, and we found out to our delight that we could see 11 different firework shows from our front porch! :) So I had a glass of sparkling cider, DH had a Miller High Life (the champagne of beers) and we snuggled (that's a loose term when you're 7-8 months pregnant) on the porch watching the fireworks. It was nice.

This year we're still trying to figure out what to do! I'm looking for something low key that we can bring DS to, like a house party where he can sleep on the hosts bed or in the Ergo or something.

@Felicity86 I'm sure it's harder with twins, don't get me wrong, but even with just my one I'm still hesitant to leave him for longer than 2 hours at night just since he's soooo attached to me (ie. my boob) at night.
  • @Felicity86 check out that online daycare review site. They have commercials in TV all e time. it's just like an online index of providers in your area. Care provider.com I think? Or ask at the local daycares if any of the teachers do any care out of the center.

FWIW, twins were a challenge, but always my specialty. When I was a kid it stemmed like I was the only one who was ever called for twins... And I watched a lot of them! At least by this she its easier!

Good luck mom! I hope you can find someone soon for help!

  • We went to my sisters and made a fancy dinner and hung out with her family, we will do the same this year. It was hard to imagine being a mom this time last year but now that I am it's hard to remember life without him :)
Plus this year I get to booze woohoo!

You need to look for a babysitter! We don't have twins, but one time we went out with family and they brought their son to our house. So there were three kids under two! We asked our babysitter if she had a friend to help lessen the load.

  • Last year we went out to a fundraiser and had a blast dancing. Which, no lies, super awkward. It's weird swinging your hips with a belly. And people watch. This year we are going to my BFFs house out in the boonies. She is having a PJs and poker night. So we are packing up DS' sleepover stuff and we will party the night away. I already have my bottle of vodka (okay, water in a vodka bottle) ready to go! PARTY!!!!!

I second that! At this age, I don't see how it's really that unreasonable for someone to watch 2 babies for a couple of hours! Have you asked your MIL before and she said no?

  • I went to a Brazilian steakhouse with friends and ate my weight in meat. It was fan-damn-tastic. Then, I drank a glass of champagne and watched the ball drop.

This year I have no idea what we are doing, but I did just purchase a sparkly dress for the occasion!

  • I like to celebrate New Years with lobster so I'm guessing I did that, hung out with the hubs and went to bed at a reasonable time. This year it's champagne and now I'm going to check the flyers for lobster on sale! No wait, cancel the lobster. We are all going out for sushi with my ILs. Dinner at 5:30, can't beat it!

  • Last year, I was on week 4 of bedrest and I was so flipping happy that DS2 wasn't going to be born in 2012.  I have NEVER been so excited for the calendar year to change!!!

We are not doing much this year, hanging at home with the kids and will probably enjoy multiple adult beverages after they go to bed.  We actually have a new years morning breakfast party with our friends who have kids.  Mimosas will be enjoyed!!!!!

  • I was "bar tending" the basenectar show at the arena. Mostly I was selling overpriced bottles water to a mob of overheated rolling kids. It was something I wish never to do again.

DD was kicking a lot that night.

  • @SidraJedi I LOVE THAT BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You might have enjoyed taking my place then. The cool part of working the arena shows is that I get to enjoy all the music :)

  • We are going to dinner with good friends and DS in the closest city ( 1 hour 45 mins away). Hopefully he's good!
  • Last year I was invited to a party but I was so swollen I watched the ball drop from the couch in my pajamas with a glass of red wine instead.

This year my MIL is watching little man. My husband and I are going out even though we're super sick :P I'm not sitting on the couch this year ;)

  • Last year, SO and I went to a not so close friends for their party. It was lame, and her boyfriend was being a real jerk to everyone except us so we left, bought the most delicious pizza around and nommed :) it was cozy

Me thinks this year I'll be popping that bottle of pink champagne I got for Christmas. (I also got a pretty New Year's Eve dress for Christmas, my first ever!) :) yay! There's a super awesome chick down the street who's also got a 2013 baby (in January) so I might have her join on in with her hubby.

We were thinking about going out but we haven't really planned for a babysitter. So the above plan seems to work better

  • we always have a party at our house. DH is a new years baby so it always been a big deal. through out the years the size has changed (not in college anymore). This year should be small, I did buy a sparkly sweater as close to a dress as I get

  • Last year I stayed home wit my hubby. He didn't feel well so I stayed up to mid night alone. This year we are having a small party. It might be crazy and hard with the baby but I wouldn't have it any other way. Have fun ladies and be safe!!!!!

  • New Year 's Eve - what's that? I think the last time I saw the ball drop was in 2010 right before I became pregnant. After that year, sleep became was too precious. Lame, but true!
Proud Momma to two beautiful children!!!

  • My NYE will be spent finishing ds's birthday cake for his 4th birthday tomorrow. That's how I have spent NYE for the past 3 years. We will probably have a few friends over for a fire and fireworks. We are usually in bed by midnight so we can really ring in the new year. Again it has become our tradition sinceds was born!

  • Is it awful that I just want to stay home in my jammies and lounge around?? My husband set us up to go to the neighbors house who lives behind us and they are nice people but I don't really want to go over there! I am sure after a few beers I'll be find and out of my funk but I was looking forward to being a bum at home since our last week was sooo busy with Christmas.

  • We went to a party with DD. she did great, we had fun. I had three flutes of champagne (not all at once, i paced myself) plus a mimosa with fresh squeezed honey tangelo juice and a moonshine cherry (yum!)

We got home about 1, DD fell asleep shortly after. Then DH and I had a very very good time by ourselves. We all slept in until 10 and we're headed to a potluck at one of our local farms (the one I used to work at) for hoppin John and good company!

All in all a really great way to start 2014!
