Sonogram today!!

Today I had my 16 week sonogram, i asked the technician if she can tell the gender. After looking for a few minutes she said, "do you want me to tell you what i think it is?" and told me she thinks boy. She said she is rarely wrong, but its just frustrating because I want to know for sure. Anyone else have a technician say what they "think" and not for certain?

  • @snuff9861 although I agree.. you are certainly in a great mood today. How much do you love going into all these threads and adding commentary?
Hey I came in to say the same thing and I am in an awesome mood.

It's been in several threads today. Just making an observation.

  • You will know for sure when baby is born. Even at 21 weeks when I had my a/s with DS the tech told me she was 99% sure. If you look at the picture it's pretty dang clear but it's not unheard of for ultrasound guesses to be wrong.
  • Thank you so much for your thoughtful insight.  Maybe someday you can have the prestigious honor of being a website forum moderator and can move the thread to the appropriate location.

  • lol.

I had an elective gender scan done at 15 weeks 2 days and was given the sex/gender.  They clearly saw a penis/testicles.  She said she was positive, but I'm still waiting till my 21 weeks scan to feel 99% comfortable.  I think it's easier with boys though, with girl guesses the problem is that the testicles can sometimes not descend until much later so what they think is a girl ends up being a boy.  Based on the fact that the elective places start doing the scans at 15-16 weeks, I think you can be pretty comfortable saying that it's a boy.

  • It's always a guess until baby is actually born. I doubt you're the only person to have a technician not be sure so early.

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • I had an ultrasound at 15w5d and the tech told me she was 1000 percent sure.  Not to mention that you could clearly make out boy parts on the monitor.  I would think that if she 'thinks' it' a boy then she had to have seen boy parts.
