So, we lost one of our babies. I went in for a routine ultrasound the day before Christmas Eve and they discovered an empty sac. They had me follow up with a Level 2 ultrasound (which I had this morning) to confirm. They think it stopped growing around 7 weeks, but we had already seen its heartbeat. We're really sad, but thankful that we still have one baby that is growing strong!
We did IVF, so I know I am 10 weeks, 5 days but the baby is measuring 11 weeks, 4 days with a heart rate of 165. They said that its nothing to get excited about, but that they will be interested to see what the 18 week ultrasound shows. Now that freaked me out! What would there be to be concerned about with a baby measuring a little larger?
Finally, they said that my thyroid is enlarged. They checked my TSH level and it came back normal. When she called with the result she said she was shocked that the level was normal based on how enlarged my thyroid is and that they would check again around 28 weeks... Then she said- "it's nothing we would treat while you're pregnant anyway.." What is that supposed to mean? Has anyone experienced this during their pregnancies? I think my nurse might just have a strange bedside manner that makes me extra anxious... I see my doctor in about a month (who I love) and hope that she can ease my mind!

Re: Vanishing Twin & Worries
Right now, if you have the slightest concern with your doctors or nurses or u/s techs, consider changing docs.
Edit: I'm sorry you lost one of your twins. By your right, at least you have one strong, healthy baby! Two babies are expensive anyway! :-P
We also did IVF and I think it was also our 10 week 5 day US the hb was 178 which our OB said was right on target. What was the size?
I'm not sure what your nurse meant. I think you should call back and express your concern and need for clarification. My TSH shot up early on, so my OB did another test about a week later for the TSH and the T3. The explanation I got was that the TSH value can be artificially raised because pregnancy hormones can mimic (Especially in the beginning when hcg spikes) it and the T3 value would be a more accurate reflection of my thyroid function. The TSH dropped but not completely and the T3 was normal. Maybe you could ask if it would be worth checking your T3.

DS also measured ahead but was born just after his due date at a healthy 8lb 12oz & 22inches.
The only thing I could think of is if the head measurement was on the larger side Relative to baby's body. That could be a sign of hydrocephalus (fluid in brain)
You may want to make an appointment with an endocrinologist just in case. I had an enlarged thyroid as well last pregnancy and they did an ultrasound of my thyroid and put me on synthroid. Who knows, maybe your numbers may be borderline normal... you may just want to have an endocrinologist look. It won't hurt.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. IVF is hard to go through... but it is so worth in the end

You guys have made me feel better about the baby measuring 5 days ahead. (That was based on the crown to rump length- not just the head). My husband and I are both really tall and my 2.5 year old is off the charts in height (he always measured a little small in utero, though)...
And so begins the constant momma worry...
Because of the fertility treatments, it can really throw you off. My OB was not concerned at all.
Sorry to hear about your loss.
