To wake a sleeping baby or not?

Apparently I'm a PW this morning, but indulge me here ;-)

Ever since I've been back at work, Em has been on a great schedule. He wakes at 6:45ish every day. I feed him. Then, I leave the house by 7:10.

Well, now that I'm on break, I've been way more lax about the schedule since I enjoy sleeping in. It is now almost 8 am and he is still sleeping. I'm worried about our schedule being so off when I go back to work in a week. That morning feed is pretty important in helping me keep my supply up.

So anyways, WWYD? Would you let the baby sleep or start waking him up. Also, if it makes a diff, he's been super sick. I've been letting him sleep as much as possible so that hopefully he'll start to get better!

Re: To wake a sleeping baby or not?

  • If the little guy is sick I'd let him sleep and maybe pump in the morning? Ive never been faced with that problem considering R thinks sleeping in is terrible and 530 is a completely appropriate play time.

  • I've been worried about our routine being off during this long break also, but I figure it adjusted easily when break started (staying up a little later and sleeping in a little later) so it will adjust again when we start back at work/daycare next week.

I agree with PP, if he's been sick, let him sleep. Pump if you have to.

    Agree with this.

LO went back to daycare today and did pretty good. we were about 1/2hr later than normal but not too bad for a week off. So I doubt you have to worry too much about his routine/schedule.

  • Thanks ladies! I didn't wake him!!
I'm not worried about 1 day, I'm just worried about him not waking up before I leave for work in the morning. I'm not able to pump as much as he eats, so I'm worried that it would affect my supply if I had to pump in the morning instead of feed. But I think @jacqueandadam is right. Hopefully he will be able to adjust back to the normal schedule within a few days!

  • Defiantly let him sleep. I'm a SAHM and sometimes my LO sleeps 1-2 hours past her normal wake up time and her schedule has never been off from it. I chalk it up to growth spurt, teething or fighting a bug of some sort off.

I after with PP pump if you need to and store the milk in the freezer, it might be a good chance to get a stash going.

  • I would let him sleep. One day shouldn't hurt
