Driving most of 95 in the new year

We are shifting to the southeast for a bit. We will drive down most of 95 in the process. It occurs to me that there are probably all sorts of important revolutionary and civil war sites and just plain old cool pit stops and shopping opportunities. We have to make lots of pit stops for LO. Any suggestions for sites we should take in?

    I don't know what its like now, but back in the day "South of the Border" on the SC side of the NC/SC border was a big thing.  There were billboards for hundreds of miles.  My parents were always in too much of a hurry to get where we were going to stop, but it always looked fun!

    How far south are you going?

    I think the furthest South we are going during the first leg is Wilmington. For a big chunk of the time we will be in Raleigh. I'm hoping to squeeze in a trip to Charleston, budget permitting.

    I drove by Gettysburg every few weeks for years and never stopped to see the sites. I so regret not doing that.
