My friend just had a baby, would it be weird to make her a batch of lactation cookies? I know she's trying to ebf. H told me it was weird, I would have appreciated it.
Well if the type of cookie is so delicious then I don't think it is weird. But maybe an assortment of cookies would be good as well. Like make a yummy protien cookie and say "I know sometimes it's hard to get a bite to eat with a newborn, so these are like small little meals". Then a really sweet cookie for the rest of her family, in like a small basket. Include the recipes in them... I think that's a fabulous idea!
Someone sent me a professionally made brand after LO was born. I didn't necessarily want them, but I ended up being so grateful she sent them! At very least they were a great snack for when I couldn't find/make anything else!
I would have loved them! I had supply issues (never did overcome them) but with a newborn I never had the time or energy (and recovering from a c-section) to go out and find all the ingredients to make any lactation cookies.
I second PP who said to maybe make some extra regular cookies too. My Aunt had a huge platter of those fancy decorated sugar cookies make for me and I basically lived on them for a week or so. Not the healthiest but easy to grab when you don't have time to feed yourself!
I think it is weird if she hasn't mentioned trouble lactating. I love the mixed assortment idea because it just comes across as sweet, whereas just the lactation cookies seems kind of pushy. I had issues BFing my son and didn't appreciate unsolicited help from others, and lactation cookies would probably have made my oversupply worse.
I'm not sure if she's having trouble yet. She just had her baby this weekend so I haven't talked to her much, maybe I'll text her and let her know I'm making some for myself and ask if she wants any.
I texted her and just said that I was making some for myself, but the recipes made a ton so if she would like some I could drop them off. She said she'd love them. I had supply issues myself at first which was why I started making the cookies, I would have hated to make her feel bad about breastfeeding so I appreciate that perspective. Sometimes when you're trying to do something from a good place you forget about how it may be perceived.
