Your Birthday

How do you feel about your birthday?  Do you enjoy the day?  Do people dote on you or do you go about like it's any other day?

My birthday is Tuesday - NYE.  I've never really liked it because growing up I always felt pressure to have something great planned, but often the weather was bad or friends were out of town for the holidays, etc.  Ever since DS I just enjoy staying at home at night.  During the day I put a silly pressure on myself that I have to figure out a fun day for myself.  DH invited my family over for lunch tomorrow to celebrate, which is so nice, but I'm going to be 34 (yikes!), and I wonder, at some point should I not care about my birthday or is it a big deal?

Would love to hear how you guys feel.

My birthday is a day to do what I want, eat what I want and have my DH & kids pamper me and I am older than you!

I'm 34 now, and I LOVE MY BIRTHDAY! I always will. I'm like @Arnegard .. I do what I want, I eat what I want, I get pampered.  I love my birthday just as much in my 30's as I did when I was a kid. It's still MY day.  Birthdays have always been a big deal in my family- my parents have always made them very very special and spoiled us, made it allllll about us.  So that's kinda just carried on through my adult hood.  Much like Christmas, it's a day where nothing upsets or bothers me.     And I totally get giddy having all the FB wall posts up on my phone all day.

For me, I've never been that excited about my birthday as an adult.   I guess I'd like it to be a fun day but it always seems to be just another day, so I guess I don't have much expectations.

My DS' birthday is on NYE too :)

I'm essentially a giant kid, so I love to go have fun on my birthday. When I was still working, I always took the day off. I see nothing wrong with wanting to be pampered. :)

    Happy almost Birthday!!!
I love my birthday. It is around Thanksgiving, so sometimes growing up the weather was bad. Most of the time, we would celebrate it with extended family over Thanksgiving. Nowadays, DH takes me out for supper and it is my day. I had a few friends bring me cards over and coffee on my birthday this year, which made me feel even more special. And I got my BFP this year, so of course that made the day extra special!

I have a friend and a cousin that have birthdays on 12/31 too. I think they kind of feel like you do.

My birthday is the day after my brothers, and the day before DD. On my day I still celebrate. Birthdays have always been special in my family regardless of age. It's a day where you get to pick what to eat and get pampered.

I love birthdays and especially mine! It's the one day I can be pampered and have my way! The past two years have been low key as two years ago dd was not even two weeks old and I was still recovering and then last year it was on Father's Day. I didn't like sharing! this year is my 30th and I am planning my first ever spa day with a dinner out with family. I can't wait!

Mine is always a birthday weekend :)  I spend a day with DH and DD, have a bday celebration with my family and then DH's family.  I also plan a night out kid free with friends....it's really a birthday week for me.  I also spend a day at the spa. I love birthdays!

Ugh. Dhs bday is the 30th as well and he hates it for all the reasons you mentioned. No matter how I try, it always seems people are busy and it's hard to make plans. I think you should do what you want to do that day and enjoy it. Happy birthday!
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

I'm sure this is going to shock everybody, but I LOVE my birthday. A whole week, I mean day of me! We also were married on my birthday, so even more reason to celebrate. My BIL was born on the 30th {tomorrow, need to put a reminder on the calendar to call him} and he has always said he either has a great birthday or a great NYE. His 30th birthday we all went to NOLA and blew it out on his birthday and basically slept on NYE until 11pm and then went out for a couple of hours. LOL

I enjoy having my birthday acknowledged, but it doesn't have to be a huge deal.  My parents usually do a small family gathering for everyone's birthday, and we try and do a dinner out for just me and DH on the actual day if possible too.  And there must be cake.  And ice cream.

My birthday is Wednesday (1/1) and it sucked for all the predictable reasons when I was a kid (too close to Christmas) and as a childless adult (everyone was hungover)... But now the day has seemed to have improved because I don't really want a big party or fuss. I typically do dinner out, go see a movie and a very yummy local cupcakes. Honestly the past few years I'm so exhausted after Christmas that it really sneaks up on me and I kinda forget it's here till it's suddenly nye. Don't put do much pressure on yourself. They only person you need to make happy is yourself, even if that means taking an extra long shower and a nap :D

I used to dread my birthday because no one remembered it and it I wished someone cared. Then I met DH, every year he does something special, even if its flowers and a card. I love birthdays now, it's not a huge deal to me since becoming a mom I focus more on my baby's bday but its still nice to feel special sometimes

Thanks so much ladies! This really helped a lot. I'm going to try to get an appointment for a facial, go to breakfast witH DH and DS. Possibly go to Homegoods (bc I love it there and I have a gift card) and for sure take a nap bc I love napping so much. I'm debating between take out and an early dinner out with DH and DS.
I'll have some wine and watch TV with DH at night.

Basically I'm going to do exactly what I want for the day and feel guilt free about it - thanks to all of you!! :)

I don't like my bday too much bc something always bad happens on my bday, and if not that my family always forgets! Like the did this year!

My bday is 12/21...growing up I ALWAYS had to have it distinguished from Christmas and would freak out if my presents were in Christmas wrapping paper.

Now that I'm older I don't care about the presents or all that, but I've always loved and looked forward to my birthday. I think of it as a day for me, no matter what I do, and try to be happy and eat as much cake as I want because calories don't count!

I enjoy my birthday. it's in August so really far away from any other holiday. It's become more subdued as I get older and that's fine. I am definitely not a party girl so I enjoy a low key day

My birthday is really no big deal for me. If I wanted to get something special for supper I probably would, but that would be the extent of it. DH makes a bigger deal than I do, and usually picks me up a fancy cake, which is really sweet of him. This past year he sent me for a spa mani/pedi, which was much needed as DS was three weeks old at the time and it was a nice little treat.

My birthday is next month. I'm turning 30. I sort of want to have a party/get together, but I'm not sure what. It will probably end up being dinner out with family. I may or may not want to go to Disneyland with the family for my birthday too...I'm very lame.
Because you're mine, I walk the line....

    Happy almost birthday!!

I love birthdays! Minus the getting older part ;)

DH and I try to make the day special for each other- wake up, breakfast in bed, go out for the day and spend it as a family.
