June 2013 Moms

First words..

Tonight, my fil was holding J. It was around her bedtime and she started getting fussy and crying. DH and I were playing a game together and suddenly J said mama. It sounded so clear that everyone stopped and looked right at her. I'm not sure if our babies can start saying words yet, but it sounded so clear. She's been saying dada for awhile and a few months ago, she said momomomom really fast, but tonight, it was a definite mama. Best feeling ever. Needless to say, she got handed over to me after that.

Re: First words..

  • DS has been saying dadada, mamama and bababa for like two weeks now. Dd did the same thing at this age, but didn't know what she was actually saying until later. Their babbling is adorable!

  • I've heard mama once and dadadadada all day every day. DH loves it!! It will count when he puts a face to a word. Anyway, I'm sure his first word will be Harry after the cat ;)

  • I hear dada and hi a lot. Both first times my 5 year old niece and sister was with and was ecstatic. He says dada to DH every once in a while.
  • Same here but she is not using it as a true cognitive language tool yet. that must have felt great!
  • That's what she's doing now, with the noises. DH was all excited saying she says dada now. It's just hilarious, because I know that she's not making any connections of the words yet, but at the same time, if seems like she is. When she is happy and playful, she will yell dada all day, but when she's fussy and crying, she'll make noises that sound like ma, last night was the first time we got a clear mama when my fil was holding her.
  • Iris babbles a lot now, but she only says mamama when she's fussing or crying.  Thanks a lot, kid.  Dadada? When she's playing.  We joke that she must like her dad best.
  • Love the raspberries! We try to decipher some noises but it's just for fun, like the Ultimate Dog Tease videos in youtube (if you haven't seen them they are the best!). A lot sounds like Hi or Hello so we've been saying them a lot with hopes that they will stick.

On another note, has anyone taught LO to wave yet? If so, did you teach the wrist twisting wave :-h or the flapping fingers wave :-@? I know, funny way to describe waving techniques. :)
  • @pnsls Ty does the bro-wave. Just kind of lifts his arm, "hey, sup dude"

  • J starting babbling mamama yesterday also.i love it. So far she babbles dadada and mamama. I won't count first words until she is actually using it with its true meaning.

  • Seriously, the raspberries lately are killing me! That and "ba ba ba ba baaaaaaaaaa". He absolutely loves to blow raspberries, though. And spit all over the place. lol
