baby shoes

FTM & lurker

I'm due in 2.5 weeks and I was wondering how necessary infant shoes are. I have a couple of pairs to put over her socks to keep her feet warm when we go outside but are they really necessary other than for warmth? And are they even necessary then if you put socks on plus a fleece one piece or pants with the footies already in them? I have TONS of those.

Etsy has the CUTEST newborn shoes but I just can't bring myself to buy them if they aren't needed. Thank you!

  • No, I live in Alabama. It doesn't get too terribly cold here.
  • Baby shoes are pointless, but I love the Zutano booties. They are impossible for LO to kick off and keep his feet warm and covered. I got them on Amazon.

  • I find shoes for babies are pointless unless they are walking. We just stick with homemade booties, socks or footy PJ's. Baby shoes are cute though lol
  • Babies don't NEED shoes until they are learning to walk and/or walking.

We could barely keep socks on DS, let alone shoes...

  • We just use feetie pajamas or socks.  She doesn't walk so it's easy to cover them with a blanket if necessary.  And if the rest of her is warm, having cool feet isn't going to hurt her.

  • DS is almost 6 months old, and I can count on one hand the number of times he has worn shoes. It involved a whole lot of him kicking them off and me putting them back on. Socks are hard enough to keep on him.

  • Infant shoes are a waste, I wouldn't buy more than you have. Footed sleepers a must, but for going out socks are enough. Once you see your little one all squished in his car seat, And have to change a diaper under a bunch of layers and shoes, by the time they are dressed they've pooped again... You will stop worrying about the shoes and outfit and more about comfort and ease of access. A couple pairs are ok for going out days but not necessary at all.
