Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

12 month old still on baby food

DS just turned one on the 23rd of this month. he's never really had too much of a interested in finger foods. he'll eat something if we're eating it, but if i put boiled green beans or any type of fruit on his highchair he doesnt have any interest in eating it. he's good with eating chicken and most meats. it's just fruits and veggies he's still on baby food for. any ideas on how to get him to like the texture for fruits and veggies a little more? or any ideas at all?

thanks!

  • Will he eat the soft green beans or fruit if you offer it to him on a fork? I have the opposite problem- DS loves veggies and fruit but isn't really interested in meat.

  • Some of the 3rd stage baby foods have texture to them, have you tried those as a stepping stone to "real" fruit and veggies? I don't really know if it's a big deal that you're LO still eats some baby food. I would do as others say and keep offering a variety of foods, prepared different ways. They also seem I want to eat what you're eating, so maybe offer them while you eat them too. And if LO still eats some baby food while you're introducing other foods, at least they're nutritious.

Yeah he will eat the stage 3 texturess fine. And the stage 3 meats like spaghetti and meat sauce he eats fine. I just don't know when he's eaten enough and I don't want to not feed him enough. And it seems like when he eats solids I feel like he doesn't eat enough.

I've tried bananas and he just spits them out.

I think what I'm going to start trying is just whatever we eat just smash it up a little bit and give it to him and see how that goes.

How do I know how much to give him?

We give DD a helping of food, and if she eats all of it I just put more on her tray.  We throw a bit away every night, but I want her to eat until she's done, so it's fine.
  • I know DS is done when he starts throwing his food on the floor or turning his head and straining to get out of the chair.
