Lol, I'm right there with you. I read somewhere it is the most popular teething 'toy' for infants. My MIL bought one for my daughter for Christmas, so we'll see eventually if it helps with teething or not!
My daughter had one and then she had a smaller one that is easier to grasp. Every baby is different. Mine doesn't like teething toys at all, so she never uses it for that, she just likes to play with it. I know other people's kids have used it for teething. The toy also squeaks. Honestly, it is overrated to me. We got ours as a gift. U can buy a much cheaper rubber teething toy and save your money. In the end, they aren't going to play with it for that long anyways.
I heard it has to do with the shape, for example the legs help reach the back teeth. But I don't know if that's true. I've yet to find a baby who doesn't like it. DD has one already.

I already bought one in anticipation of how fantastic they are meant to be! DD is getting it as a Christmas gift even tho we're several months off from using it.
We had "Chan" for DD1. Made from makers of Sophie, but it doesn't have any long limbs because I read somewhere that some kids choke on that (but I guess that would defeat the purpose if that is all that will reach back there as a PP said). Anyways, she LOVED that thing and chewed on it constantly for 6 months. You could hear it squeak like crazy at times because she was chewing on it so much. Definitely getting another one for DD2.
FTM here, 23 weeks pregnant so no first hand knowledge, but my best friend has one and she uses it as her go to toy for her daughter. She loves it! When she was 4-5 months, it was handy to keep her hands busy with during diaper changes, in play, etc. Now that she's 7 months, she's constantly chewing it, sticking the legs in her mouth, and so on. We went out to eat last weekend, and it literally kept her engaged for almost the entire meal. She mentioned it's specially shaped to be interesting/stimulating to little mouths and the legs are long like a finger to chew on. I'm definitely going to get one.
Just as an aside, at 7 months, she never squeaked it once during the dinner. I think it's more an attention grabber for when they're tiny. It'd be pretty hard for little fingers to squeak it, I'd think.
Well we asked for one for christmas and got it! LO is 3 months so he doesn't chew on it much just yet bc he only grasps for a short time then drops it. But he does like it in his mouth when we help....can see him loving it as he gets a little older.
My cousin had it for her two little girls and I bought one for each of my friends who had babies. I haven't heard of a baby yet who does not like Sophie. On of my friends little guy wasn't taking to any teethers that they bought him, when I gave him Sophie he took to her right away and loved her. He even needed her to sleep lol
