Exercise ball

Had anyone used one to help induce labor?

Re: Exercise ball

  • Not to induce, but it helped me progress during both my labors. When my water broke with my second I bounced on the ball and contractions started on their own. I never ended up needing pitocin.

I'm not sure bouncing on a ball will induce labor, although it feels pretty comfortable.

  • I read several articles saying it can help... So far it just feels good ;)
  • I am not trying to "induce labor" but I got one a few days ago. I use it while sitting at my computer and while watching TV. It has really helped my hip pain and I have noticed LO has dropped more (no idea if that is related to the exercise ball or not)

  • I have been living on my yoga ball for weeks now. It is the only thing comfortable for me to sit on anymore. Really helps with hip, pelvis and back pain. I bounce on it a lot hoping something something might happen :)

  • I've heard great things about using a yoga ball, especially for hip pain. Where have you ladies found yours?

I bought mine from Target! You can get them at any sporting good store too.

I ordered one off amazon that also came with workout dvd's that I can use afterwards. I've also seen them for sale at walmart and they usually come with a pump.

Note: Mine did not pump up to the full size at first and after reading online I found that it has to stretch out. Pump it as full as possible one day, then come back and put more air in it the next day, and maybe even one more day if needed to help it slowly stretch out to full capacity.

  • My doula recommended we get one to help with baby getting into position. We'll also use it during labor to help with pain. It also is just comfy to sit on! It's also supposed to help build core strength (sitting, pelvic tilts, rocking forward/backward and side to side, etc.). I definitely recommend it. We got ours for $13 at TJ Maxx.
  • I bought myself a new one at Target so that I get the right size ball for my height (my other one was a bit too small).  DS is still high up and when I sit on the couch his feet and butt hit my ribs making it uncomfortable to watch TV.  It's been helping today as I'm binge watching Nurse Jackie today.

  • I'm not using it to try to induce, but it does help with comfort and is suppose to help with positioning. It's also suppose to help with labor and bouncing on one was the only thing that soothed DD the first few months

  • Also recommend a yoga ball for helping with hip/lower back pain.  Loving mine right now!

  • My sister got me one for Christmas - she said it helped her during her labor and just watching tv. I can't wait to start using mine (need to add more air like a PP said)
  • We have a store called 'five below' and they're $5 someone in my childbirth prep class said.  I was at a store in the same strip mall TWICE yesterday and forgot to stop in and get one both times. :-S DH was with me and forgot too, although I think he's suffering from pregnancy brain as well.

  • I spend about an hour a night on my yoga ball while watching t.v. I don't think it will actually help induce labor (although that would be fine with me if it did), but I am hoping it does help LO get into position.

  • I bounce on it for my hip pain, not to induce labor. I also plan on using it during labor as part of my pain management.
