Sore and sensitive nipples

I bf for the first 2 weeks and it hurt so bad I would be in tears so I switched to only pumping which has been much more bearable but lately is starting to hurt more and more. I have extremely sensitive and sore nipples I can't even let the water in the shower touch them without it hurting. Anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to ease the pain?

Are you using lanolin or another sort of nipple cream before pumping?

My nipples were unbelievably sore as well but I expected that. From everything I have read and what I can also now attest to- it takes 6 wks for the outer skin to truly 'toughen up'. If the inner stem is sore however, that's a sign of a bad latch. As for the pain with pumping, try putting lanolin on the inside of the flanges prior to each pumping session. It's like lubticating pistons, so much more comfortable & much easier on your nipples. I had so many problems breastfeeding early on & with time they've all worked themselves out. Don't give up, it gets better!

I had the same problem and the LC said I had an infection. I got compounded nipple ointment and it helped right awat.
